My wife an I have just spent 2 nights here and we cannot fault the place. The staff are warm and welcoming and performed an improptu native Tanzanian song at dinner when they realised it was our 35th wedding anniversary! The accommodation and meals were excellent and our Game Drive Guide, Minja, could spot a Leopard from 300 meters away. Minja’s incredible skill at tracking game really made our stay. We also awoke to Zebra grazing outside our tent both mornings. We plan to return for a longer stay in the coming years.

This lodge was wonderful, full of wildlife but felt so safe. It was quite the view to come back from dinner to see the wild animals walking around our tent. It was truly a unique experience to sleep while listening to them outside the tent all night long. Staff were very friendly and kept us feeling very safe. Food was excellent and it was so nice being able to have box lunches so we could be out getting great pictures all day. Can't wait to come back!

We spent 3 nights at Mara Mara Tented Lodge and it was a fantastic experience. The tent is very large, comfortable with a terrace and an outdoor shower which was an amazing experience!

The food is very good and the chef - himself - was explaining the 4 course meal every evening. Laundry is free as well as drinks.

The staff is friendly and the general manager, Mr. Ramah, is attentive and welcoming, always doing his best to please us.

The Lodges is 1 HOUR AWAY from the river where the action is.
The lazy drivers will suggest you to go back to lodge for lunch at 13:00, and stay there till 16:00 before going back to river again.
They will waste half of your day time for game ride, just to ensure drivers can have good hot lunch and some nap.

The car used for excursions has at least 20 years and has never been refurbished.

Managers at the hotel are as the drivers, and will cover them up and make you waste even more of your time.
They made us stay 2 hours at the airport waiting for a driver exchange.
We wrote a denounce to the Kogatende airstrip police station while stuck there (attached photo).

When placing a claim they wash their hands completely.

If you can afford to pay a very little more, go with Asilia lodges and drivers.
Asilia are real professionals, on a complete different level.

Tanganyika W, Owner at Mara Mara Tented Lodge, responded to this reviewResponded September 3, 2019

Dear Italo,

Thank you very for your post and feedback after your stay at Mara Mara Tented Lodge. We are sorry your stay at our lodge was not successful. Nevertheless, we have taken note of all your comments.

Please find below the responses to your claims:

1. First day upon arrival at 10.00 hrs your guide Alex briefed you on the timetables and it was agreed that you would go to the lodge for lunch with a game drive on the way. And in the afternoon to depart at 16.00 hrs.
On the second day the game drive agreed was from 07.00 hrs to 13.00 hrs and from 14.30 hrs onwards.
This is the day when you requested at midday a change guide and we agreed.

It was unfortunate that the second guide delayed about 2 hours. We gave you the opportunity to continue on the game drive till the second guide could reach you and you refused.

2. The vehicle you were allocated was an open vehicle, Toyota Land Cruiser, 7 years old and in perfect condition to undertake game drives.

3. In your complaint to your agent and to us you use several times the wording ‘ criminal’ referring your first guide.

By definition criminal means:

A person who is guilty of a crime, notably breaking the law. criminal(Adjective) Being against the law; forbidden by law.

Our guide by no means broke the laws of the country, Tanzania.

To call someone a criminal without any proof is defamation.

4. Location of Mara Mara Tented Lodge. The lodge is between 15 minutes (In Fact is 13Km)to 1 hour to the river – depends how one drives. It has amongst the best locations in northern Serengeti. Nobody by law is allowed to have fixed structures close to the river, in order to protect the fragile ecosystem in the area.

5. It was brought to our attention that you wanted to do game drives after 19.00 hrs. Please be advised this is not permitted according to the Rules and Regulations of Serengeti National Park. (See:http://www.tanzaniaparks.go.tz)

We agree, Asilia has excellent accommodations, vehicles and guides.

Thank you,

Nuria Panizo
