My wife and I stayed at this so called upscale tent camp run by Kensington tours. The tent camp was located in the right place within the Serengeti preserve near the Grumate River where wildlife abounds year round. Game drives were great and you can see wildlife from the tent camp itself. Before the game drives and after you want to come back to a sizable breakfast and/or dinner at the tent camp. This Kensington camp does not quite deliver on the food service at the price point you are being charged. Instead of healthy offerings of fresh cut fruit for breakfast you are offered two slivers of fruit on a small plate. You also get a small helping of scrambled eggs on one toast and coffee. If you stay at a lodge you get an all you can eat buffet of several different food choices including an omelet bar and pastry table. Dinner at the campsite was ok but fell far short of the five course meals advertised in Kensingtons promotion literature. The lodges offer several different food choices (beef, chicken, vegetarian, fish) while the menu rarely varies at the Kensington camps. The better lodges are also located in the preserve and convenient to game viewing. So stay at a lodge instead of this tent camp. There is not a substantial difference in price but the service is so much better at the lodges plus they have internet service. Another reason to consider lodges is that tent camps have to relocate every year so as not to damage the ecology of the campsite. Kensington is now a 10 year old company which is starting to show some wear and tear on its tents. Mine had a small hole and insects. Though I'm not squeamish so this was not a problem for us. The hot water also worked though you could only get it at 6AM and 6PM every day.
Overall, I think Kensington is a reputable company that lines you up with good guides and vehicles and will make the right reservations at the lodges and arrange in-land air transport. Just pass on their tent camps and insist on lodges instead. The Serena offers great accomodations within all the top game preserves. I stayed at the Serena Mara and the Serena Amboseli and they were great.
