“It doesn't get much better than this”

We just returned from a wonderful two-week Safari in Northern Tanzania. This tented camp was absolutely superb. The staff were warm an welcoming and the appointments were excellent. If you are vacillating in any way between spending the $$ to stay in a tented camp vs lodges during your first safari, we strongly recommend the former experience. I have never slept better anywhere, where the cool breezes over the Serengeti, the comfortable beds, the star-lit skies, and sounds of nature soothe you through the night. Food was excellent and the staff are great at accommodating special diets. I am a vegetarian, and they made an effort to not only determine the boundaries of my dietary restrictions but also my food preferences. Another couple whose stay overlapped ours was kosher -- they brought their own pots and pans and plates, and the cook prepared their food separately. Just one example of the ways in which Olakira will go out of its way to make your safari experience a personal and special one.

Luxury in the bush! Excellent service, lovely staff and a wonderful experience. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Beautiful tents and delicious meals. Would definitely recommend to future travellers.

We had an unusual experience with Olakira, but one that should even more clearly illustrate what a great camp this is. Olakira camp staff "took us in" late one evening when we couldn't cross the Mara River due to flooding to get to the unrelated camp where we had reservations. They gave the two of us the one tent they had available, which was their family tent, perfectly positioned as the closest tent to the river. We did later pay for the tent, but not until we had stayed for two nights due to the continued flooding.

When we arrived from our "way-station" at the Sayari camp (a beautiful camp in the same group as Olakira that was closer to our original river crossing site, in which staff graciously let us wait and offered us drinks in their main "lobby" tent while they helped us find other accommodations, as they were fully booked that night), the Olakira staff got us set up in our tent, then placed a small dining table for just the two of us, as it was approx. 9 p.m. and the large table was completely full of current guests. Staff then proceeded to serve us a full meal, as if we'd arrived earlier, like everyone else. The staff was incredibly friendly, efficient, and accommodating, especially considering we arrived in the dark with no reservation.

That night we experienced hippos munching around us, and, at about 3 a.m., a giant elephant (a mother, we were later told) feasted on the plentiful grass about six feet from our tent and when my husband moved toward the side of the tent she was outside of, she lifted her trunk and nearly touched the tent screen while sniffing him. We were thrilled!

Humri Pascal was a wonderfully gracious, hard-working and kind manager, and he and his highly-skilled staff did everything they could to make everyone (including us, the last-minute stragglers) feel welcomed, well informed, and very well fed.

If we could give this place 10 stars, we would. You will not be disappointed in the luxurious tents, exotic meals, great staff, or incredibly close proximity to the Mara River.

We had a wonderful time at Olakira. We spent two nights at the end of our safari, which was the last part of our honeymoon. We had been recommended to go there by our agent, Imagine Africa, and it certainly lived up to expectations. From the beginning the staff were incredibly friendly, helpful and made an effort to know our names and do what they could to help us. The food was good and the tents were extremely comfortable. It was such an experience to see the wilderbeast migration from the camp and hear the roar of lions and hyeenas at night. The highlight of our safari trip.

My husband and I spent three nights at Olakira's camp on our honeymoon. The location of the camp is superb and allowed us to experience wilderbeest crossings. The camp is semi-permanent and as such not as luxurious as some of the other Asilia lodges but still very well accomodated and very comfortable. The staff was nice and surprised us to a campfire dinner for our honeymoon which was so sweet and such a wonderful surprise on the last night of our honeymoon safari. Highly recommend it to other travelers!

We spent a wonderful 4 nights here as part of our honeymoon. After climbing Kilimanjaro this place was an oasis of hospitality, good food and simply breathtaking wildlife viewing. We saw a total of 8 different cheetah and even watched a cheetah kill, we were awestruck. The Olakira team were wonderfully orchestrated by Eric and provided for our every need despite some testing conditions, dry rustiness followed by torrential downpours which brought an insect invasion. This is a mobile camp so you are vulnerable to the animals and elements but if you want this real experience Olakira is for you. How the staff create 5 star meals in tents is a miracle. We will forever be in Nathan's debt for finding us so many cheetah and giving us a honeymoon to remember.

We spent 3 nights at the Olakira camp in the northern Serengeti through the recommendation of our safari guide www.idreamofafrica.com. The location is extremely remote with very few people around when we went in early July - hoping to catch the Wildebeest crossing. The camp location was near the river with stunning views of the surrounding area. This remote area of the Serengeti was wonderful for viewing wildlife without all the crowds you find in the central Serengeti. Our superb guide was able to spot an endangered white rhino. The tents have all the comforts of a luxury hotel with screened windows so you can hear the sounds of animals. One night we heard a lion roaring. The BEST meals on our entire safari were found here at Olakira. Dinner is an exciting event. Before dinner we sat by the fire and enjoyed some drinks. We then had a multi-course meal over the course of a couple hours. Even our boxed lunches with bacon wrapped figs and other delights that we took out on our safaris were great. All of the amenities found at the Olakira could not be possible if it were not for the AMAZING staff who made sure we were always comfortable. Including on a chilly night we had hot water bottles warming our bed. Coffee and biscuits brought to our tent each morning. The staff works as a team to make sure every detail is covered. There really is not a single flaw I can find.... the experience was close to perfection. I only wish we could of stayed longer.

Immerse yourself in the Great Migration at Olakira Migration Camp. Home from December to March is the southern Serengeti, where herds of wildebeest calve simultaneously and the plains throng with new life. As the dry days of winter arrive, Olakira relocates north to the confluence of the Mara and Bolongonja rivers for spectacular game viewing at the Mara River itself and around the Lamai Wedge. ... more   less
