My wife and I live in Dar es Salaam as volunteer teachers. Dar is a large, somewhat chaotic city. Sometimes you just need to get your house fumigated and find some peace and quiet. However, we are on a budget [volunteers], so a big get away isn't always an option. We did treat ourselves a bit by going to Upepo Garden. It is unbelievable how close to the city it is, but it is quiet, calm and relaxing. It was perfect. Great food, great atmosphere and a great staff. LOVED it.

Room tip: I did like the sea view, but everything looked very nice.

I will highly recommend this guesthouse to everybody who wants to stay in a peaceful welcomming place. The hostess makes you feel special and organice everything you want . Taxi into Dar el Salaam takes about 15 min, and to come back to the breeze and relacing atmosphere feeles like coming home. The staff is smiling , and the cook makes really good food at flexible times. You can choose to eat on your own or join the others. Upepo is situated next to the sea if you want to cool down in the refleshing water. If you want to go to safari or to Zanzibar this will be a good start or end of your journey.

We arrived here at 5 am and were met with the most welcoming hostess! We stayed for altogether five days; a perfect place to stay after the long flights and we came back for two days before gong back home! With only five rooms Upepo Garden has a cosy ang homely atmosphere! The food is excellent, the staff 's always smiling and helpful. The owners are very pleasant, uttermost helpful to organize! Situated on the beach you are blessed with the pleasing breeze in the heat and you can walk directly into the warm sea for a nice swim! You'll never regret choosing Upepo Garden!

So you think Tanzania: exotic, mysterious, exciting; you can't wait to get there. Then you travel for 15 hours straight and land on Dar Es Salaam. Now that's a bit of a weak spot you might find yourself in. Certain expectations might be crashed once you experience the traffic, the pollution, the chaos of this city. Tired Traveller, despair not. For close, lies Upepo Garden and the lady hostess Carrie-Anne. She's the cool pal you didn't know you have in Dar. Her place is a lush, spacious villa right by the sea, with good size rooms, very clean bathrooms and tasteful decoration. The staff are lovely; the food prepared with care and attention to detail. Dinner might be served around one common table, where all the -limited, due to number of rooms- guests meet, share a laugh and enjoy the company. Location wise, it's not central; you need to travel 15'-30' to the city center depending on traffic. However if staying centrally is not a must for you, Upepo is a fine choice you will surely enjoy.

Wonderful place - intimate, warm, well equipped and stylish home. Great spots to sit, beautiful views out to sea, soothing ocean breeze. Great staff and management. Very comfortable room and bed, good AC if required, and good box mosquito nets and netting on windows. Tasty food, and flexible arrangements - can have all meals there. Lulled to sleep by sound of wind and waves.
