I was so surprised by this property. It's a little piece of heaven in a very chaotic city. The rooms are comfortable. A really nice front porch on each room is a great place to relax. The restaurants and bar are right on the beach and serve amazing food. I'm hardly ever one to compliment hotel food but this place is exceptional. They even have sushi. The service is great as well. The bed is a little firm for my taste but is probably perfect for others. The internet has been a little unreliable which is common in this city. The property seems well guarded by Mossai and there is not any harassment from seedy characters.

Room Tip: The ocean view rooms don't offer much of a view as they are blocked by vegetation. Save $10 and get the garden view. Enjoy bring right on the water at the restaurant and bar.

Our family goes to Tanzania every, or at least every second year. The first time we stayed at Mediterraneo Hotel was back in 2005, and we totally fell in love with the place immediately. Now every time we go to Tanzania, we stay our first nights here when we arrive, and the last nights before we leave for Sweden. It's the perfect place to acclimatize oneself to Tanzania before going to my wifes hometown Dodoma, and splendid way to relax and enyoy before going back home. The rooms are nice, beautiful and clean, the staff is attentive and friendly. The food in the Italian restaurant is delicious, I actually had some of my best pizza and pasta ever here. Our kids love to jump in the Swiming pool or in the indian ocean. The place is evolving for everytime we come here, and that without loosing it's rustic charm. And my favorite place is always there, the lounge, where I can sit for hours with a cold one just relaxing looking at the sea...

If you are looking at a place to stay in Dar es Salaam but dont want to be in town then this is a great place. Advantage is you are away from the hustle of town, beautiful gardens, pretty good beach for town, nice restaurant with an ocean view, nice bar on the beach. Disadvantage is that if you need to go to town its just too far away. it takes you about 1 to 1.5 hours to get to town if traffic is bad.

Hello,
thank you very much for your review, it is always nice to hear that we make your stay a pleasent one. Regarding the traffic, you are right that is a big negative for our place, but if you choose to have meetings in town between 10:00 a.m. and 15:00 p.m. than is not that bad, it may take between 30 to 40 minutes to reach the city center. The authorities are building a much bigger road that is parallel to our main street, and we have already seen some improvement. By the end of the year the traffic could be much less. Thank you again. Kind regards. Alas Abdinur

A wonderful song by Ella Fitzgerald says: "Everytime we say goodbye, i dye a little, everytime we say goodbye i wonder why a little..." Well that's what i feel everytime i leave Tanzania and all the people who works at The Mediterraneo. Warm and smile wait for you there and the light of the moon give you time to think about this world!! This time i found a new romantic place in the restaurant side of the Mediterraneo that is the new sushi Buddha Dar, very good quality and a wonderful romantic place where looking at the moon who sign they way on the sea, you can hear the Barbra Streisand voice singing" they way we were": Memories light the corners of my mind misty water-colored memories of the way we were..." My opinion is that is important to find a place where we can have a smile and to think and talk about a better future for all of us!

After landing Dar es Salaam I was taken from the airport to this hideaway resort. It's fabulous for families or young couples in love! They have a pool and it's right on the beach. The sunrises are spectacular! The rooms are comfortable, if a little sparse. The service was good the food was excellent.

Room Tip: I would choose a room away from the reception desk and take a garden room if you're looking for extreme quiet. This place is a bit out of the way, good if you're not touring the city the first day. When they advertise a room as beachfront, it's not really beachfront, you see a glimpse of it, but it is facing the beach. Aside from that, it's a good place to stay for a few nights to relax.
