Harbour View Suites

This hotel provided a welcome oasis in a dusty town. The room was huge, great bed and linen, immaculate bathroom. Floor to ceiling windows give you a great view of the harbor and dark curtains make it easy to catch up on sleep. The restaurant was nice, and the rooftop pool was lovely. The staff are friendly and attentive. Downstairs is a small supermarket that stocks western goods. The location is central and it is a short walk to the waterfront. The Internet charges were steep, so go elsewhere to check your email. Despite 40 days of power cuts last June/July this hotel had a back up generator so you were never left in the dark or hot. The hotel drivers were courteous and very galant as I was traveling alone last July, insisted on walking me through the crazy bus station out of town carrying my pack and made sure I was safely on my long distance bus and kept an eye on my pack until the bus hold was shut and he bus had moved off! Would stay again.

Room Tip: All rooms are up on the 5th or 6th floor, most have a great view. The floor layout can be a bit diso...

I was fortunate enough to get rooms in this otherwise overbooked hotel . When I reached hotel I was least impressed since its situated on busy and crowded Samora avenue and the entrance looks more of business centre than typical hotel. But moment we reached our rooms I knew I had made a right choice. Rooms are clean, spacious ( more than any hotel I have stayed) and quite moderately priced for its size and facilities
Each room had small sitting place and a kitchnette attached with all facilities like fridge,microwave,tea/coffe maker, electric stove, toaster etc. Staff was very polite, friendly and prompt. especially GM of the hotel Mr Rakesh Shah who went out of his way to help us in any way he can. The Boddles restaurant on 9 floor serves nice meal may it be Indian or Continental. Their chef Mr Raju went out of his way to serve us whatever we asked for.
Best thing about this hotel is its location Whatever you need is actually housed in same building on ground floor like super market, exchange, mobile service centre, reastaurants ,casino ,ice cream parlours ,medical shop etc. Just outside hotel is taxi stand manned by very decent locals so you don’t have to worry about moving around and looking for taxis.
I will definitely like to come back to this place again and highly recommend for any one traveling to Dar es Salam

Harbor view hotel and suites

Located right near the Harbour, the hotel suite is a large tower overlooking the Dar Harbour. It's a funny setup with the reception on the 9th floor. I spent 5 nights in a room on the 12th floor. The hotel has two sets of lifts one at the front used to get to the room and one at the back used for the pool, gym and restaurant. The room was spacious with 20inch CRT tv with handful of Channels. It was fairly modern, had its own self catering facilities including pots and pans. The shower and toilet was on the small side but clean. The shower itself didn't spray down but rather across which was annoying. The shower pressure was ok. The hotel has wired Internet in the room at 15usd per night 24 hours. It has wifi near the restaurant which was free. (prob not on purpose).
The restaurant and bar serves Indian and pasta dishes, which was ok probably once or twice. Breakfast was reasonable and had selection of fruit, cakes and hot food. The only problem is all shops outside close at around 6.00pm so its to difficult to explore properly especia if your working through the day. The complex has a supermarket and cashpoints on the ground floor which was handy. Other shops include mobile, apple stockist, jewellary, Casino and Ice cream.

The hotel is busy as we could not have an early checkin. The service can be a bit hit and miss and seemed the staff were not trained well- some were very polite and attentive whilst others just didn't seem bothered. Overall it was a reasonable stay the only drawback is that your stuck with restaurant food as other restaurants are about 10-15 min drive away. (tip masala tea in restaurant is lovely)

You can see my old review from May 4, 2011. Since that writing the hotel has not only changed hands, but changed vision. The little things that make a hotel personal are missing. The suites are to have a couple glasses, flatware and such should you have room service. Better check before ordering food. Glasses take longer than pizza to get to the room. If you eat in the restaurant the food has changed, music is different, and ambiance is no longer important.

All these changes we saw come about the second half of 2011. But we kept our patronage until Jan. 1, 2012. They changed their rates - even corporate rates! Sorry, it in NO longer worth it! The staff has not changed for the most part. But they are handcuffed to a management team that has a different outlook on hotels. That stinks almost as much as the hallway they make everyone walk down on the 9th floor to get to the elevators for parking. Sorry for them.

Room Tip: The new section has bigger rooms with a better view.

It costs 119 USD all inclusive in one of their smallest units, the studio room, in january. We rush through this hotel, between our ferry coming from Zanzibar in early afternoon and our late night flight back home. Sorry to be very short this time, we really only spend a few hours here and find that this place does the job very well.

We like :
-10 – 15 minutes stroll from the pier ; our prime reason to be here.
-Nice room, well appointed, and very large (50 m2 over)
-Nice shower bathroom
-Wifi, kettle, safebox

We don’t :
-Nothing so far

Tips :
-The entrance of the hotel does not look like an entrance to a hotel. But do come in, and somebody will show you the way to the reception, 10 floors up.

A quiet comfortable hotel suites in the busy city center area. The hotel is in the Samora avenue which is a quite busy street. located close to the harbour and the view of the harbour from the dining room is spectacular.

The suites are spacious & comfortable and have the facilities to make a basic meal and the kitchnette has a two burner electric cooker, a refridgerator, utensils and crockery & cutlery.. though the hotel is by a busy street the street noise cannot be heard at all as the hotel is located on the 9th 10th & 11th floors.

The staff is friendly & courteous.

The suites are very clean. the white linen are spot less and are changed daily.

Harbour view suites are a welcome oasis in the chaos of this large city.
Clean and spacious rooms. Staff are very welcoming and always remember
you from previous visits. The Boddles restaurant serves a nice meal and has
a good outlook. Not loads of character but somehow I always return here.
