Its a 30 minute trip by Boat that costs 31000 TZS return trip. Boat leaves at 9:30 am and 11:30 am. Go to the SLIPWAY to board the boat. Snorkeling on the island at low tide is excellent and LOTS to see. You can order lunch on the beach as well as beers and cooldrinks. There are shade huts available for a small rental.

Amazing, clean water. Quiet. Very few people. Nice boat trip to go there. We stayed and enjoyed the beautiful water for several hours, looking at shell, swimming and we had a nice meal at the very simple, but nice restaurant.

If you need a day away from the busy city life, hop onto a boat, lay by the beautiful ocean, read a book, swim, and enjoy a freshly caught and cooked lobster, calamari or piece of fish and chips then Bongoyo is the break you need.

Went Bongoyo for a bit of snorkelling which wasnt great. Very few fish & virtually none of any decent size. Because you get stung on Mzungu price (if your white skinned) & just how awefull the staff on the island where I wouldnt advise anyone to go there even if it was free, save your money dont go!

Okay, maybe I did grow up in the farmlands of Nigeria, but I've never seen such a beautiful place as Bongoyo island. Untouched by civilization, it is a nature enthusiast's heaven complete with small coves filled with shells, shells and more shells. Beach close to powder white sand.
The boat ride from the Slipways is about 20-30 mins. Remember to take some drinking water along. I made the mistake of not taking my swimming trunks and regretted it bitterly so pls take your swimming gear. The water is absolutely divine. There's a small makeshift canteen that serves basic food and drinks, nothing fancy. There are small open shades, under which you can rest in reclined chairs or mats. You can also snorkel and I understand you can rent equipment.
Now the other side of the coin, ...... You pay for everything! Good thing is its not expensive.
Prefect way to spend the day with family and friends......just bathe and laze away!!!
