“Absolutely decent hotel !”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 27, 2008

Spend, early Nov 08, 5 nights in the Mövenpick Royal Palm hotel.
This is an abolutely decent hotel.
You get more or less a good Western standard hotel in Africa - which isn't bad at all !
Room was spacious and clean with everything working perfectly well. Bathroom was spacious and clean with everything working perfectly well.
Reception staff was a bit slow but all went fine on check in (with intennet prepaid booking) and check out.
Bell boy was great and very helpfull.
Cleaning staff was very friendly and attentive.
Restaurants : breakfast buffet is absolutely adequate with a wide variety of foodstuffs.
The Italian restaurant on site is very decent, although a bit pricy. The hotel bar is great as is the bar staff.
Wednesday evening it's lobster eve - fantastic choice and very good food !
Taxi's on the premises are expensive. Just across the street (behind Barclays bank) there's a "public" taxi stand with really very democratic prices and with reliable taxi's.
Swimming pool area is, although small, very pretty. Not crowded at all - with decent lunch and dinner possibilities in the swimming pool area.

We had a pleasant stay at the Mövenpick Royal Palm!
When going back to DAR, we'll stay at the Mövenpick again !

Only stayed 1 night while on business. Rooms are in good condition with all the space and amenities needed for a comfortable stay, room service and internet wireless and cable - the speed is not great but at least you can get away with it.

Transfer to the hotel is an experience, be ready for a bumpy ride, this is Africa.

We stayed here for one night before going on safari. It was very clean and comfortable. The room was reasonably well appointed and quite spacious. Staff were very friendly. We ate at the italian restaurant in the hotel that evening and this was also a good experience. All in all, a good stay and a good place to recover from a long haul flight.

I booked here as I wanted somewhere safe and a known quantity for an overnight, but wouldn't really recommend it, though some of the staff were great (and should open their own hotel). The chap who runs the executive lounge on floor 7 deserves a medal.

Despite $220 room, which is high for Tanzania, decor pretty tired.(certainly not resembling the crisp cool colours on the website) .We were in a smoke smelling room, and although the front desk swore blind that it was an executive non-smoking room, it was difficult to see in that case what the ashtray was for. As it is in the business district, it isn't a great place to walk after dark.

The promised shuttle to the airport 'at minimal cost' seems to be something of a figment of the hotel's imagination;

Our family of two adults and two kids, aged 12 and 10 stayed for one night on arrival In Dar prior to a Safari. The hotel was a wonderful place to relax and get in the holiday mood.

We had one of the Junior Suites on the 7th Floor which overlooked the Golf Course.

The hotel was in our opinion excellent. The service was never a problem and we had a pleasant meal in the L'Olivato Italian restaurant there.

We would definitely stay again and would recommend to anyone.

I said at Movenpick/Royal palms on 29 june and 13 july. I was on the 4th floor. I loved the rooms.. loved the pool, loved the food.. even if the lunch and dinner were a tad over priced. I was not pleased with the reception as they could not find me in registration as i was registered through a travel agency. On the trip home, my transport driver came to collect me and the hotel desk could not tell him who I was or what room I was in.

but the food rocked!!! the rooms were nice, The wireless was affordable.

The doorstaff were awesome smiling and welcoming.
