Set away from the city centre, this hotel is aptly named. You'll be greeted at the door by a very friendly Masai warrior in traditional garb (see pix). You can dine in the Karambezi restaurant right at the edge of the Indian Ocean. In a strong wind this can be a tad daunting, especially when the tide is high. But just as often the tide is low, and breaks on the edge of the reef a couple of hundred metres away.
Get a room with an ocean view and watch the dawn break - a truly spectaculuar sight. Nip down to breakfast (the Karambezi of course) and, after indulging in fresh pineapple, pawpaw, mango, water melon and the freshest passion fruit ever, order up a cooked breakfast just to your liking. Eggs any way you fancy, bacon, toast - the works.
In spite of the hotel's attractions, don't miss the Sea Cliff "Village" just around the corner. Here you'll find an excellent mini-mart, ATM, fashion stores and a few more restaurants to suit all tastes. These facilities make up for the fact that you're not down town.
If this is your first visit to Tanzania, then Hotel Sea Cliff is an excellent jumping off point. Highly recommended!

As a first-time visitor to Africa, I arrived with typical US jet lag and a cranky, tired 3 year-old in tow. We were met at the airport as requested by a driver with our name on a placard. The village "family room" was huge, clean, and beautifully made up with a king-sized bed and a full twin bed for the child. A huge sealed bottle of water is provided daily as well as a refrigerator and coffee/tea center. The Java Lounge provides room service and full sit-down breakfast for the Villagers, and leads the pack in hospitality. The staffed playground was a godsend, and having a bank with separate ATM, travel agency, supermarket, clothing and book stores steps away from your room is the best. There are a number of other excellent restaurants including Indochinese,a French bakery, seafood, steak house, Indian and a juice bar. In the main hotel the swimming pool is a delightful magnet for ex-pat families and you will meet people from all over the world. The 24-hour cafe was most accommodating to our nocturnal adventuring. The service is very responsive. The beauty salon is considered one of the best in Dar, and next time I hope to visit the bowling alley and casino. There is wi-fi access throughout the hotel, which is good considering the business center is not always air conditioned.

This is one of the best hotels in Africa. Situated in a beautiful garden setting on a small cliff overlooking the sea, you could not ask for a better setting. The hotel and its grounds are spotless and well maintained, and the staff are all friendly and very helpful. Even the hookers in the bar are friendly and not agressive at all. The room was clean and everything worked properly. The fittings in the bathroom were quite unique but still functional. Unfortunately I was here on business, but I would be happy to return here for a holiday.

My week stay at the Sea cliff could have got off to a rocky start as our room was although, sea facing, was not up to standard........we asked to be re-located and this was done with minimum fuss and good grace. It has to be noted that the hotel is currently undergoing refurbishment and the original room had yet to be transformed......however the new rooms are thoughfully and tastefully revamped and from then on our stay was superb. The staff, facilities and food will guarantee that your stay will be an experience to be remembered. The Calabash Restaurant has excellent cuisine and is patronised by the residents and non residents alike.... A MUST SAMPLE RESTAURANT if you are in Dar es Salaam. We found that the staff at the hotel were extremely helpful and friendly and did everything possible to make our stay comfortable. The Sea cliff Village (next door) is a great place to hang out and snack........do try the FISHMONGER RESTAURANT (upstairs) for mouth-watering fish dishes and very reasonable prices. When the Hotel completes it's refurbishment and especially if it undertakes a NO-Smoking policy in it's rooms THIS WILL BE THE PLACE TO STAY IN DAR.............Well done to all
