Not a clean place to go. The Kitchen is filthy and once had orders some Fritters, along came a Fried Insect.

“Best for authentic indian snacks and sweets”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2012

Ok venue for quick indian meal although a bit greasy. The venue doubles as a shop for a huge variety of Indian snacks and sweets. There are even gluten free ones! Watch out "very hot", is just that - even I couldn't handle it. Staff (the girls) very nice.

“Great outdoor south indian food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2012

56 Bhog is a great value outdoors veg restaurant smack bang in the middle of Indian quarter of Dar, on Kisutu/Temple St. Best is the South Indian food they make right in front of you in the evenings, so it's fresh and clean and a total sensory experience. Try the dhosas, uttapam, and idli, or pau bhaji. And my kids love the paneer tikka dry. All delicious! Tables are outdoors on the pavement and you can enjoy life go by. The hawkers gliding by with counterfeit DVDs and chachkis can be a bit of a pain, but remember they are simply trying to make a living, and you'll enjoy it if you take it in as part of the experience.

And if you want to come back for lunch, the indoors Retreat restaurant across the street from 56 Bhog has the best Indian vegetarian buffet in town. Both places are great value: the food costs half or less as the places frequented by expats on the peninsula.

“Cheep and Cheerful”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 19, 2012

With both inside and outside seating 56 Bhog is a great place to sit and watch the bustling action of the Kisutu district in Dar. The menu is South Indian Vegetarian and I love a good dosa. These guys do not disappoint. I ordered the masala dosa which arrived crispy and hot, full of veg masala, and accompanied by coconut sambal, that odd soup, which I never know what to do with, and pickle, yum, not too spicy, just right. The inside is a bit cramped so we sat outside on blue plastic chairs but it was great because you could watch all the stuff happening on the street around you. The staff is very friendly and happy. The prices very reasonable. We tried to go back on another day but they weren't open yet so try not to go too early.
