“Nice but not the nicest”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 28, 2011

I have stayed there 3 times in a period od 2 years. Breakfast is good, the Guest Managers are kind and service minded and the receptionist are very friendly. Lack of porters in the night time really makes you feel you are nor getting service.
What really disturbs is the 2 times experience of cheeting. If you pay advance they make their utmost to turn the final balance in their favour. Last stay example: I had paid about 1000 dollars too much. They claimed for almost 1500 USD. After item by item recount they agreed that the had to pay me. Even then they wanted to send the money later on my account. So! Stay awake with the bigger bills.

I stayed for 8 nights at the end of October on business. My room was on the first floor of the main building. The views to the front were as expected, nothing to write home about, so if looking to go for leisure try and get a room in building that backs on to the bay. The room was very clean and spacious. The bathroom required a bit of modernisation, but still in good order. The facilities in the hotel were good, wifi worked fine throughout, even around the pool area. Food is of a good standard and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. The hotel appears to be going through a bit of restructuring around bars/ restaurants so only really the bar by the pool to drink at (fine when the weather is good). I'd stay in the hotel again.

I had a very pleasant stay at the Double tree property at Dar es Salam. The hotel rooms are very good and spacious. The service was very good. The hotel has a very good setting. The locales are very attactive.

The only downside of the hotel is its restaurant. Its not great and the food served is very average. The quantities served are also very paltry. I think there is indeed a scope of improvement on this.

Overall a very nice and pleasant stay.

I landed in Dar Es Salam and with no prior booking found, Doubletree Hilton Oyster Bay .

From the car park entrance, this hotel looks average but once you are inside, you are in for a pleasant surprise with really well maintained fixtures and property. It took a bit of haggling with the front desk to get me a room but in spite of a fully booked hotel due to an ongoing conference, they found me one facing the town side (instead of the ocean view).

Can't complain too much, as the entire hotel, the staff and accomodations were well worth my money. The highlight of this hotel is that they have a huge outdoor swimming pool + a huge deck for guests to linger around. THe jetty is a sight to behold during sunsets .

Though I was there on business, I would say it is a honeymoon hotel for couples and airline crew (saw a huge entourage of KLM crew trundling into the hotel)

Room Tip: I stayed in "1 KING bedroom" which is really huge .

The setting is nice, sitting on the terrace on the waterside, even if the service takes forever and a day. The rooms are good, but the last three times I stayed at Doubletree I didn't get the room I requested and had to change each time. Either no seaview which I had requested and PAID for, or a smell of sewage, or very noisy (extractor ducts on the go 24 hrs a day), etc. And last week the hotel driver that drove me to the airport was a kamikaze driver from hell - and that only for $40. And the food in the restaurant is very so so - the worst gazpacho and caprese ever! The business facilities are good. It has potential, but they have to clean up their act first. Next time in Dar I'll be looking out for a different hotel.

I was finishing up a work stint in DAR and had to move out of my apartment early, so I stayed at the Doubletree for 10 days. First I have to comment that the beds are some of the nicest I have ever slept in. Great pillows, great sheets, great mattresses. Also, it is a really good thing they only give the free cookie when you check in because they are very decadent, but quite a treat. The doubletree is located on the water, so when the tide is in, or even out, there are nice views from the property. It is also next to Slipway, a collection of shops and restaurants, and bank, that you can walk to...Staff was very responsive and helpful to inquires. They have a very small gym, but worked well enough ( 1 bike, 2 treadmills, 1 strange elliptical, free weights)...pool area is nice, grounds are well maintained. 8-10 TV channels....breakfast was good, but I would recommend going out to dinner, as the food was okay, but higher end prices for DAR, though room service was always prompt. Wifi is free, though at times spotty and a little slower than the mobile modem I was using before ( though can't complain too much-as it was free) All in all I had a wonderful stay, and will miss it.

Room Tip: Some rooms have views ( mine didn't) but I think they cost more, so up to you. Otherwise the no...
