This was one of VERY few places open on Sunday. It is fast food, but much better than McD's or other American-based chains.

Worst restaurant chain in East Africa. Absolutely terrible. Not sure what that was but not a hamburger. Flee!

Steers, in the heart of Dar es Saleem, was really good. There were three different restaurants in one - one was a burger & fries place, another pizza and the third, which was my favorite, was a sandwich and salad place. The salad plate consisted of 4 salads such as potato salad, pasta salad, tuna salad, greek salad, chicken salad, cold slaw, carrot raisin salad, etc. Sandwich plates were also yummy. A touch of America with a Tanzanian flair. Very family friendly and great value...and a nice cool spot to escape the Dar heat!

I honestly haven't tried anything else of their foods because their veggie salad is delicious and it's ready made, so you just pick the 4 varieties you want (out of cole slaw, greek salad, pasta salad, potatoes, mixed salad with cucumbers + tomatoes, carrots + raisins, tuna, prawns etc) pay for it and pick it up. You can't get service this fast anywhere else (this applies to salads only).

I was actually coordinating my work in the city so that I'd get there every chance I had: vegetarians don't have it easy in the restaurant scene of Dar, and even though they have cheaper veggie burgers at the Jubilee Towers cafe, the Steers salad is way better in terms of value for money! *And* healthier.

The Greek salad usually has less feta cheese than the norm in other parts of the world (or none at all) as dairy is scarce in Africa, but if you notify the staff they can add extra feta cheese from the kitchen at no charge.

Oh: and if the salad bar staff "suggests" a particular salad, don't take it. It's half spoiled.

Enjoy!
