We stayed here in an air conditioned room as an overnight stop before catching the ferry to zanzibar. It's close to the port (short taxi ride) and the price is very reasonable. All of the places on Libya street are no alcohol hotels.

The shower wasn't great though, so it's probably worth checking it before you take the room.... it took some time to wash off a 12 hour bus journey in a trickle of hot water!

Please do not stay here if you want everything to be perfect. At 35,000Tsh for a double room in central Dar (at least inside the Bibi Titi ring road) you are not getting luxury!
We have stayed here over 6 times in 2009/10 and have found our rooms spotlessly clean and basic.
Water has generally worked with occassionally low pressure (but that is what happens in Dar generally). Mosquito netting on the windows was often not intact and there were no bed nets. We used to spray but we never saw a mosquito and it does not appear important.
Sometimes it is very hot and the fan is insufficient, in which case pay 10,000 extra for a/c.
The reception needs brightening up but a cheeerful greeting usually produced a smile.
Breakfast is very basic. If you want more go across the road to the Captains table and have a blow out there - you can afford to seeing how little you have paid.
The position is great for cheap eating places -- Captains Table, Jambo Inn and others and there is a small bar, the protein bar in Jamhuri Street. For more formal tourist orientated meal and booze the Peacock Hotel is round the corner.
Though street lighting is poor and the pavements uneven and holed we never felt threatened walking here at night.
So cheap, central and basic, good for staying in Dar on a budget, interesting location in the middle of the Asian quarter which one may not normally visit.

The rooms are dirty, humid and smells badly. The service from the woman in the reception was terrible. The breakfast consist of nothing more than a sad piece of toast which come with the tiniest amount of butter and jam as possible. Don't go there!!!

Stayed here for just 1 night me and my family after missing the ferry to Zanzibar.
is basic but cheaper and very close to the centre of town and closer to the Port to Zanzibar.
We took two rooms which was very cheaper and clean, the bathroom had a hot shower,
the location was a bit noisy at night time ,could not sleep much, but the prices was good can not complain much.
All in all is good place for a short stay!

This is probably one of the best-value places in all of Tanzania in the budget bracket. However. Although it looks quite professionally and efficiently run, we had the misfortune to run into the worst nightmare of a receptionist: the guy who welcomes you with a cold stare and a Soviet-style 'njet' denial of your truthful affirmation that you had booked a room by email, and also confirmed by telephone the night before. He refused to acknowledge our reservation and said we had to leave because they were booked out. No apology, no offer to help finding another place, nothing. When insisting that we then wanted to see the manager, he just laughed and said we couldn't, and that he didn't care about us not getting a room. So we were fuming.

Just after us, a big group arrived. I think what had happened was that they had cancelled a few single-night reservations like ours in order to be able to accomodate the group, because there was another girl who turned out to be in the same situation. For her it was even more outrageous as she had stayed there the week before and had booked this extra night already then. She received the same treatment.

Now I would have been more than happy to walk away and give this place a 'Terrible' review on this site, were it not for the fact that we soon found out by making calls that every single place in the same price range in all of Dar Es Salaam was booked out for that night. So we were truly desperate. Fortunately a guy walked in whom the other stranded girl recognised as last week's manager. At least he was a decent man, heard our story, checked with the idiot-receptionist how the booking situation was and in 2 minutes had made some re-arrangements so that a triple room became available for the two of us and the other stranded girl. Ok.

The room was very basic but clean, the bathroom ok, no real water pressure from the shower but we cared only about getting some sleep and that's what we got. The beds were good, the linen fresh. Enough room for luggage. There was AC but we didn't use it, the fan was adequate both for cooling and keeping mozzies away. In the morning a tiny cooked breakfast (better than nothing) and a lady at the reception, apparently the owner, who apologised for the previous night's scene and let us store our luggage for the day.

I guess we were unlucky, so I'd give this place the benefit of the doubt.

We stayed there for one night, it was so bad so we moved to a different that charges $10 more but is much much nicer! From my observation this hotel is mainly lived by overseas workers (mainly Indians) not tourists.

We arrived late in the evening from Johannesburg, SA en route to Zanzibar the next day.
The airconditioner did not work (temp around 38 deg C) and was very noisy.
We woke up to find no water in the hotel and the management handled the situation poorly. We checked out around 10am without a shower, fortunately we were not in Dar on business.
