We stayed here for 3 nights and as a purely practical place to stay for a cheap price it definitely does the job. The building and rooms aren't attractive by any means, but it's in a handy location and is comfortable with decent beds and bathrooms, good fans, fly screens etc (the fan was fine so it's not worth paying more for air con unless you really want it). The management may not be that friendly, but they're efficient and knowledgeable when you have any queries. If you're just after a cheap practical place then this will be fine.

If other nearby hotels are full and you stay here, do yourself a favour and get a receipt immediately...and be sure it's from the official hotel book. You may find he front desk staff entertaining with their amazing levels of ignorance.

Its a bed for a night, absolute basic for the money, good ol' musty smells in the bathrooms but nothing i'm writing will come as a shock to an experienced budget traveller.

You'll need a trustworthy mosquito net for the room and something to McGuiver it up over the bed. Padlock your door from the outside when stepping out.

This hotel and OTHERS NEAR IT it are in a fairly 'safe' area at night (even to walk to) and you can eat at local restaurants. But stay in the immediate few blocks heading towards the water and get current info from others.

Safe trip.

The econolodge has large clean rooms, provides towels and soap, clean bathroom with hot shower, as well as free breakfast ( coffee or tea with fruit and toast). The staff is friendly and helpful. In this hotel you are paying for the basics, not including atmosphere, but worth every penny.

I have stayed at Econo Lodge a few times recently and have found it clean, very conveniently situated and friendly. The rooms are large and clean and I even had hot (ok warm) water in the shower last time I stayed. The hotel is situated close to all the other budget hotels and walking distance to good food, ATMs and supermarkets. Breakfast is included, it is basic but nice (eggs toast, fruit and tea/coffee) and the staff are helpful if you need advice about how to get somewhere, book a taxi etc. I'd recommend staying here if you need a place to stay downtown for a couple of days in Dar.

I stayed here for 1 night during my stay in Dar. It was very basic. The sheets were clean and so was the bathroom. The shower was poor and there was no hot water. The staff weren't very friendly. The hotel is in a good location. There's internet cafes, banks and restaurants nearby. There's a taxi rank right outside. Cheap to get to the bus station/ferry/airport. Expect to be woke up every morning at 5.30 by the mosque next door!
