Good and clean rooms. Locker, mosquitonets, water boiler, airco, tv and fan. At night noisy because of the mosques, but that may be everywhere in Dar. Staff not very friendly, but ok. Breakfast is above average. Long traffic jams between hotel and airport. It can take more than 2 hours instead of 30 minutes. Near the hotel are nice restaurants, working ATM, supermarket and lot of souvenir shops. Free Wifi, which also can be used in the nearby restaurant at the waterfront. Nice place to start your trip, if you don't arrive in rush hours (heavy traffic jams)

We used this hotel as a stop off before flying out on Safari. I am glad that it was only for one night. The room was small and very basic with a tiny bathroom. After a long hot journey which all we wanted was a hot shower. Problem number 1 was no hot water despite leaving the tap running. We did ask but they told us just to keep trying. There was no food being served on site so we ventured outside which I am sure the shops are lovely during the day but were all shut by the time we got there at 7pm. So we grabbed a quick beer and then had a look around and there was a supermarket open so grabbed a few bits of junk food, crisps and chocolate and went back to our room as we were too tired. The bed was comfortable with a mosquito net but the sheets did not feel the freshest, we were so tired we just slept. The so called balcony was only 2 foot wide with a large aircon unit taking up half of it so wasn't really worth sitting out on it. Still no hot water in the morning so we had to boil the kettle to wash.We had to leave early to avoid traffic to the airport, which the hotel knew but did not offer to pack us a small cold breakfast, to be honest the state of the hotel room put me off the idea of eating here anyway. I would have been upset if we had been using this place for more than a bed for the night.

The Slipway is a treasure of restaurants, shops, movie art galleries and a myriad of types of lodging. Whether it be for a few hours between trips or a home for many months, the Slipway has what you're looking for: travel agent & Coastal Airline booking office, Barclays Bank, playground for children and a beauty parlor.

Located on the Msasani Peninsula, the Hotel Slipway rooms have comfortable beds, full baths, refrigerators and balconies. Steps away is The Souk with various shops; grocery, jewelry and book stores; art galleries featuring African art (At the Tinga Tinga gallery, you can watch the artists at work.) a pharmacy and movie theatre, and a pool. The Terrace Restaurant is one of
the best in Dar es Salaam; Cafe Classico is wonderful for lunch; Azuma Japanese Restaurant and The Waterfront have delicious food. And there is also an ice cream store!

Satellite TV, in-room safe, air conditioning, 24 hour concierge and secure parking as well as free WiFi.

This is a lovely place to relax and enjoy, just 4 miles from downtown, and all this comes at one
of the most reasonable costs in Dar.

I have stayed here numerous times over the last ten years, both in the apartments, Hotel Slipway and Dubai House. Each time, I have been pleased with the accomodations, food and the service.

Stayed here for 10 days on a business trip. Overall the stay was nice - clean rooms, decent breakfast, reasonable rates, decent wireless, and the nice location in the Slipway complex (which has Vodacom, Barclays, grocery store, nice waterfront restaurant, and the launching point to Bongoyo island). However, there are some important drawbacks: no gym/pool (it is under construction, a cheap one is a short walk away), Slipway can be kind of isolating/boring, especially if you are a single woman traveler and they advise you not to walk anywhere, taxi drivers charge you an arm and a leg to get to/from Slipway (a non-signiifcant part of my Dar budget), and the front desk staff were pretty unhelpful the entire time. There were a few notable exceptions, but overall the front desk staff definitely had attitude and didn't seem to be able to help with recommendations for food/shopping nor the waiting list for rooms. On the other hand, the porters, breakfast staff, and overnight staff were wonderful. Overall I'd stay here again but if I can afford it I will stay somewhere with a gym and a few more perks.

This is a very well designed hotel with very nice spacious rooms and an airy feel to it. There are good facilities nearby - bank, supermarket, restaurants - and it's overall very good value. This would have been a 5 star review had the service been consistently good. Some of the staff were unhelpful, unfortunately, but we never had a problem with the service from the management.

It is located on the peninsula and is close to all the embassies. Good location, good value for money, nice shopping centre/mall right below where you can buy souvenirs, food, books, etc. They have internet, even though it quite often does not work.

Room Tip: Go for a room in the new wing, much better air-condition and nicer and newer setup!

Hello Felix - thanks for the good review.

Regarding the quality of internet access: we have over the past few weeks upgraded our system, which may have led to some temporary instability. We are, however, very pleased with the outcome. Since the switch was completed up-time has been 100%, and the speed has increased quite substantially. Lastly, the coverage is now wireless throughout the hotel.

We hope you will come and try on your next visit and will share your experience with us.

My favorite place to stay in Dar. Right on the water - beautiful location. Lots of shops and things to do. Rooms are adequate and reasonably priced. Breakfast a bit boring, but not a biggie for me. It is a great place to stay for business and leisure. It is near a lot of the embassies. Great place to meet up with people.

Dear Laura

Thank you for your positive review of Hotel Slipway.

On the issue of breakfast: you may have seen that we are in the final stages of building a swimming pool. Once this is done breakfast will be served al fresco right next to it.

With the changed location comes a new menu. We hope that both aspects together will make the breakfast a lovely new experience.
