I'm glad to have gone and seen it but really, its a small cave, lined with people selling tchachkies. I would encourage travelers to go, but don't expect one of the Wonders of the Worlds. While there, make sure to tour Asliah - a great little town with good food and lots of local art.

I went on my own so didn't really see the cave but stood on the cliff and admired the most beautiful show on earth - the sun setting behind the ocean. Breath-taking. You can also see Spain in the distance - only 14kms away. Make sure you have arranged transport to and from here as it's a bit way out of town.

Plan on a 2.5 - 3 hour visit by Taxi (about 250 DH). The cave is nice to see. When we were there, the sea was pretty wild and the waves slamming into the cave were a spectacular sight.

Also visited the Cape Spartel for a view of the Atlantic. Gave the kids a camel ride (make sure you haggle - we paid 5 Euro for a 3 minute walk around, which we felt a bit steep).

Do not take a guide in the cave. We asked whether he was included in the entrance price and that was enough to let him disappear. The cave itself can be seen in 3 minutes.

Overall: a trip here gives you way to see a bit more of the city (make sure the driver takes you along the California district which is great with its lush hills and expensive houses) and the surroundings of Tangier. Also make sure the driver takes the road along the summer palaces of domestic and foreign royalty. Not that you can see the palaces. But the long walls and the guards give a feel for the importance of the owners.

My husband and grown children visited the Hercules Cave while on a private tour in Tangiers. We took a day trip on a 45 minute Ferry from Southern Spain for the day. We had booked Aziz Bedgouri (highly recommended.) This was one of the sights we visited. While touristy, we found it beautiful, unique, and interesting. It makes for beautiful photos. It was a highlight of a great day tour.
