Main door is locked day and night, you have to ring to get access. The rooms smell very strong like mold and and the water drops from the tabs down the wall.

The area around is not the best, and doesnt look safe. (I wouldnt go out alone during night)

Because of the smell you have to keep the windows open what can get very annoying when all the teenagers of tanger meet in the nightclub next the hotel.

Anyway, the room and the beds were very clean, the shared toilette looks very good and hygenic. The shower could need a renovation.

All in all, the price is ok, but I wouldnt stay a second night.

El muniria isn't the cheapest place in town. But it's worth the few extra dirhams! Staying at the famous room where junkie was written is a plus. you get your own set of keys of the front door so you can come in at any time! Hot water and a clean room is big plus. didn't have the problem about noise (cafe was closed). A Fresh sea breeze and a wonderful view! if u like me are a Burroughs fan take room nine! you're also away from all the other tourist medina traps ( a plus for me) Over all I recommend this place to couples, family's and friends!

Room Tip: Room nine has good view and history!

A big and clean room for a reasonable price. Not far from the medina and the Tangier port that it is convenient to move next. (also walkable to the bus station - 20 minutes) Internet was on and off sometimes. What was worse was the noise from the bar next door. Could not sleep peacefully.

El Muniria far surpassed my expectations. It is affordable (Dh250/night), clean and in a convenient location once you find it. The alley way can be a bit dodgy at times, we had a guy follow us and start masturbating, however I'm sure its rare for this to happen! Rooms are cosy and the bed is Mega comfortable! Staff are friendly, and it never was a problem to get in as you must buzz at the main door. It can get noisy late at night as their is a bar run nearby, however we never had a problem sleeping.

If your getting a cab from the bus station it shouldn't be more than Dh8 metered.

El Muniria delivers the experience you want. The hotel is basic, clean and very reasonably priced. We paid 250 MD per room per night (around £18). The hotel was chosen for the history and specifically the Burroughs (Naked Lunch) connection. We saw Room 9 where Burroughs lived for two year; although now well furnished, as it's one of the bedrooms used by the owners it's not available to rent. The first night my friend stayed in Room 4, (the one used by Ginsberg) as our rooms (7&8) were not ready, This was not really the owners fault as we arrived on the last day of Erfoud - a major 3 day harvest festival holiday which everyone takes off and visits their families. Room 4 is identical to all the others and offered little taste of the history or past activities of it's guest - this is now for your imagination to recreate. Room 7&8 are on the 2nd floor and provide direct access to the amazing roof terrace, which you access via a side door or more commonly through your open window. Even in winter these rooms are comfortable and do not require heating; but have a radiator if this is needed. Some points to note. The owners do not issue a key but open the door on your return. This worked well and only once did we have to come back when no-one was home. We found the owners very welcoming and courteous and spoke the usual 4 languages you hear in Tangiers. The local mosque is very close and has a speaker which while loud we didn't find unpleasant - in fact this became a welcome feature of the day. Below the hotel is Tangiers Inn, which we didn't visits but operates from 10pm to around 1am. You will hear the music in your room, so take ear plugs if this is likely to disturb you. Although I'm unlikely to visit more than once, if I did return I'd take glasses and a kettle as the rooms do not have any tea or coffee making facilities. There is also no lounge or kitchen you can use and no TV (which we appreciated). Overall I'd recommend this hotel for the history, value and location.
