Worst experience I've ever had while traveling. Being trapped in the tour group is unbearable. I wrote an angry review here on ta a year ago and just noticed it's gone. Felt I should resubmit...

“Great tour guide, interesting day out”
Reviewed May 27, 2014

Having read so many negative reviews, we didn't have high expectations. I'm not sure if we were on a different tour, but my partner and I had a great day! We booked the "Cultural Tour"

The boat from Tarifa left a little late, but in Spain it would be a shock if anything happened on time. The crossing was rough, i've been told about these seas and they were choppy but staff were on hand with sick bags for those who needed them. The boat was fine, not 5 star but it had everything we needed for this short journey. Try to get a window seat and keep your eyes on the water, we were treated to acrobatics by about six dolphins, it was a wonderful sight.

Arriving in Tangier, we were met by Rashid who was to be our guide for the day. A lovely man, fluent in at least five languages. He was friendly, happy, and well informed. We took a coach ride around the city, it was fascinating to see the poverty side by side with the incredibly wealthy. The coach will stop and give you the chance to take a camel ride. For about 2 euro, it's well worth it. A great experience. Watch out for the vendors trying to sell you tat though, they can be very pushy here.

The coach also stops at several great viewing points, fantastic for pictures. Returning to the city centre, we then took a walk through the Medina and the markets which were great! The smells and sounds were so alien to us, we loved this. Lunch happens a little too late - it must have been 2pm before we sat down, considering we left Spain at 11am and there is an hour time difference - we were all starving! The restaurant was in the old town, full of atmosphere, but sadly not full of great food. Be very careful ordering drinks, these are not included and can be very expensive indeed.

After lunch we took a walk to the Kasbah where we were shown around the building and museum. We had enough time here to enjoy the sights, before walking back into the old town and exploring the tiny streets. We were then left for about an hour to do some shopping of our own, which we enjoyed. Be very wary of the street sellers here, they crowd around the cafe where the tours drop people off and can be rude and pushy. Sometimes it takes more than a polite no to get rid of them. Also be wary of anyone offering to show you anything or take you anywhere - they will want to be paid for it. Just say no.

After our shopping time, we all returned to the cafe meeting point and Rashid took us to his firends carpet shop which was a blatant sales pitch, not especially interesting or fun, but it only took up 15 minutes so it wasn't too bad.

On the whole - a great experience. Great guide, wonderful sights and sounds, dreadful food.

“Nice day in Tangier.”
Reviewed May 24, 2014

I had a nice 1 day tour to Tangier, Morocco from Marbella, Spain. It was well organized by Viator/Juliatravel, a part from they did not pick up me on scheduled day. I went to Tangier with the same company next day. - Short bus ride from Marbella to Tarifa, breathtaking ~30 min ride on ferry, colorful Tangier. Good local English speaking and knowledgeable guide Hassan. Good lunch at traditional restaurant. Bring US dollars together with Euros. Street and shop salesmen accept both currencies.

“Set low expectations.”
Reviewed March 14, 2014 via mobile

After mixed reviews from local Spainards we decided to take the opportunity to visit the Moroccan county. We last minute bought our tickets at the port. The ride was slighty bumpy but ok. Met by our guide at port. He spoke English well but was not overly friendly. We did feel like he wasn't open to questions and had little information on the tour. At times we felt like we walked in circles. The "shops" had very little to buy and we felt pressured. My best purchases were when I ventured beyond the recommended shop and actually got a great deal. We were also surprised to haggle with shop in port and were pleasantly surprised. Our guide pointed us in the right direction at the port. Never said good bye or explained the closure of the tour. We had uncertain expectations and as long as your expectations are low you won't be disappointed. High light was the camels. Super cheap! What fun!

“only worth the transportation to and from Tarifa”
Reviewed January 16, 2014

We stopped in Tarifa for a day trip to Tangier while travelling through Spain and Portugal this Fall. We booked a cultural tour and round trip transportation with this organization. The net sum is we were ripped off. The cultural tour was 5 hours of running through shopping stops while the cultural stuff was totally ignored. An example was racing through the Casbah to be left for 45 minutes to shop in the Sook, only then to be taken to another shopping stall! I don't need to hear about the guide's low income housing. Tell me about Tangier, the culture, the people, the history! Don't take me to where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean and forget to mention that the Straits of Gibraltar happen to be in the middle! Save your money. Take the ferry and hire a qualified private guide.
