“More camel cheese, please!”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

Said Tours is absolutely the best! We had a fantastic day trip in Tangiers that included a trip to the Cave of Hercules, the lighthouse at Cap Spartel, camel rides, and shopping. I was worried that I would have difficulty finding GOOD vegetarian food, but Said took care of everything. (Surprisingly, my favorite was the camel cheese! The Harira soup and mint tea were amazing too.) Said knows everyone in the city and made sure we felt safe the entire time. Prior to our arrival, Said kept in frequent contact via e-mail and even arranged our ferry tickets. Our other tour guide, Mohamed, is also highly knowledgeable and has a great sense of humour. Upon departure, Said gave us directions and suggestions for sites in Spain and called the next day to make sure we arrived safely. We hope to return to Morocco very soon for a visit to Marrakech or the desert...with our "Moroccan father", Said. Merci et SHUKRAN! We miss you already!

“Great day in Tangier!”
Reviewed January 4, 2013

We were recently married in the South of Spain and had several friends and family from the States visiting with us for a week. We were a mixed group of 22 people: some Spanish, some American, some experienced travelers, and some who were outside of the US for the first time. We thought a day trip to Tangier would be something completely different and a really memorable experience.

From our first contact with Said, he was very responsive and over the course of a couple of months kept in regular contact with us to make sure all of our questions were answered. He even suggested a transportation company to drive us from Malaga to Tarifa. From the moment we boarded the bus until we were left back at our home later that night, we were well taken care of.

Said was very knowledgeable about the city and spent a great deal of time explaining those points that were of most interest to us. He interacted well with everyone in the group, easily switching from English to Spanish and back to English again. Some of the stops are admittedly a bit touristy, but they were all a lot of fun and made for an unforgettable day.

We are hoping to return to Morocco for a bit of a longer visit and would definitely contract with Said again!

“Highlight of our family vacation!”
Reviewed January 1, 2013

A must do when you are in Southern Spain. Spend a night in Tarifa and take the ferry to Tangier!!!!!

We are a family of 6 (2 children ages 8 & 11, 2 grandparents in their 60's and my husband and myself). Our daytrip to Tangier was the HIGHLIGHT of our entire 2 week trip. We visited with Said in Tangier on December 26th. I had emailed back and forth with Said and told him what we wanted from our tour (no shopping, a visit to the American Legation, camel ride, tour of the caves, and a sense of life). We were a little nervous about taking our daughters on this trip. Said assured us all would be good. He gave us our reservation number for the ferry and we had no problem getting it first thing in the morning at the port (which was only a few minute walk from town). He was there waiting for us when we got off the boat. Said quicly put us at ease and introduced us to Mohammed the car driver and Said the tour guide (not to be confused with Said the tour company owner). Said, our guide, spoke excellent English and was extremely knowledgeable. At no point did we fear for our safety. Said made sure to keep the kids involved and interested. He bought them colored silk as a souvenir and dressed them up in traditional clothes when he passed a vendor he knew. The girls have said that their day in Tangier was their highlight in our two week trip through Portugal and Spain.
We spent the beggining of the day walking the kasbah - the kids loved the snake charmer (which our guide found for us since he was not set up yet and tipped for us), we all loved the American Legation, enjoyed seeing the way people live and the narrow streets of the medina. Said pointed out so much that we never would have noticed on our own (architecture, way of life, children going to school, etc.) Our tour of the fish market and the other food markets (meat, vegetables) was fascinating. How different from the USA! It reminded me of markets I have seen on my trips through Asia. We enjoyed seeing the Grand and Petit Soccos, the Anglican Church (Said arranged for the caretaker to be there to open the church for us and explain it to us). We then took a car tour of the weathlier areas of Tangier. We saw the point where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean Sea. Great pictures to take there. The whole family loved the camel ride. Sure it's touristy, but it was the highlight for my 8 year old! We also liked the trip to the Hercules Grotto. We got some great pictures there and the girls enjoyed it. We ended our day at a restaurant that Said takes his tours to. At the restaurant Said the owner joined us. He made sure we were happy with the food. The several courses were delicious. I was afraid my girls would not like the food (they are picky) but they loved it. I was most afraid of one of all of us getting sick. None of us got sick - Said promised that and he was right! We liked the music that played while we ate. We were offered seconds of anything we wanted and had plenty to eat. Said then got us to the ferry. He took our passports and had us bypass security. He runs the town! He is the major of Tangier. He knows everyone!! He brought us to the VIP section of the ferry and not until that point did we pay him anything. We can't stop talking about our experience. We recommend it for any age adult and for children who are old enough to appreciate the difference in culture and try new things. While the poverty was evident, with Said there to guide us we never felt unsafe. I will recommend this to any of my friends who want to go to Tangier.

“Intense tour makes for perfect getaway”
Reviewed December 31, 2012

As an experienced traveller, using Said Private Tours, was a true pleasure. It was great to be able to just relax and ride along as you get one impression after the other.

If you only have one day in Tangier, use this service. Very price worth, excellent service and a lot of interesting things to do and see on this intense tour.

“Tangier Day Tour with Said was Perfect! Just one Regret.”
Reviewed December 23, 2012

First, the regret: We should have overnighted in Tangier. There were a few more stops I would like to have made, and a little lingering here and there I might like to have done. A second day would have given us the opportunity to visit the American Legation, browse some of the shops, and shop at my own pace for a few things I wish I had not left behind. Ah well...another time for that.

We've been traveling about in Spain for 3 weeks so far and thought Morocco should be on our to do list. After reading the accolades from travelers who chose to book a day tour with Said we thought our choice was a "no brainer".....Said was the way to go!

We conversed by email and Said said he would make arrangements for the ferry. At his suggestion we took the fast ferry (30-35min) from Tarifa to Tangier Port...one we had not come across on line. Originally we were going to use the ferry Algercireas/Tangier Med (90 min), but Said cautioned us that Tangier Med is an hour away from town center and getting into town from there was difficult and time consuming and would cost more money. He only needed to know the times we preferred. He prepaid our ferry and gave us a conf#...all we had to do was show up and board the ferry.

He was waiting for us at the Tangier Port Ferry, and the car with driver Mohammed was just a couple of steps away. I can be a little skittish about drivers in other countries but never felt one second of angst while Mohammed was behind the wheel. Said is personable, knowledgeable, attentive, well-spoken and has a good sense of humor. After a few hours Said left us and Mohammed the guide stepped in (not to be confused with Mohammed, the driver). Again, our guide was a wealth of information and answered questions patiently. He knew we liked mingling in the culture and he led the way to talk about the Moroccan people and how they live their everyday lives, their beliefs, their tolerance for other religions, etc

Said met us (Mohammed the guide, my husband and I) at the restaurant where we had lunch, explained a few food choices, described each and then Said and Mohammed left us to have lunch and talk. He arranged local music at the restaurant, and the waiters were very courteous and helpful.

Said and Mohammed personally knew 1/2 the town and would stop to chat briefly and laugh. They could win a political office...no campaigning needed. Because of his connections Said knew that the return ferry was running 60 min late but instead of taking us back to the ferry at the official departure time, he stayed in touch with the ferry company, continued our tour for an additional 60 min and delivered us to the ferry just before it's late departure.

Reading some of the city reviews made me just a little apprehensive about wanting to spend time in Tangier (poverty, aggressiveness towards foreigners, limbless beggars). We've lived in Asia and have traveled the poorest countries in the world but it does not make one immune to what you are told or might imagine the background story to be. Having local guides is a barrier of protection for the tourist. Also, any tipping was taken care of by Said. Camel drivers, restaurant staff, musicians, auto driver. He insisted that we not pay him a penny until we were leaving for the day and then met us with a bag of olives, oranges and tangerines; his gift to us.

At the end of the day we would do it again, but perhaps we would spend the night in Tangier.
