“Perfect for backpackers/budget travelers”
Reviewed October 17, 2013

I went for a few days of backpacking with a buddy around Morocco and we thought this hotel was perfect for what we wanted - mainly cheap and centrally located. This hotel satisfied both. Sharing a room with two twin beds was cheaper than our last hostel, so we thought it was a good deal. Very close to train station and very easy to find. Location is excellent, security is as expected, beds were maybe less than average (but clean!) and the bathroom was good. We appreciated the hot water! It was challenging that the hotel did NOT have maps of the area, and the only place the receptionist could suggest was closed for a few hours - more hours than we wanted to waste inside the hotel! We just walked in and negotiated a room - do not book online as it is way more expensive.

Essentially, perfect for budget travelers and backpackers. Comfortable for what we expected.

The hotel is close to the train station Rabat Ville, and close to the medina. There are a lot of boulangeries around where you can buy breakfast. There are also a cinema and some shops around. You can also buy food, fruit and water in the medina.

We stayed in a double room for three nights. The hotel was being painted during our stay, so we had to watch out for wet walls when walking the stairs. The room was simple but clean, and so was the bathroom. Shower was sometimes warm, sometimes only lukewarm. We had a balcony with view on the street, it is quite noisy if you have problems to fall asleep. The WiFi is only available in the garden and has poor connection. They said they had a curfew (at midnight) but sometimes the door was still open after midnight.

The service at the reception depends on the receptionist. There is a very nice man, always smiling, but there was also a grumpy man. They speak barely English.

You have to ask by yourself which time you should check out your last day. They didn't tell us and our last day we were too late to check out, the grumpy man was mad at us and wanted us to leave as soon as possible. He yelled at us in French and we didn't understand.

But it's a cheap hotel at a good location. Maybe I would go there again.

I was in Hotel Splendid for two weeks in March 2012 for business. THe staff was cool, the place was mostly clean with the exception of their comforters which were too rough for my skin. No television and wifi access only in the main floor so no web surfing in your rooms unless the rooms are on the second floor. The best thing was the hotel's location which is close to everything especially the Medina (market). So if you are looking for clean, simple and affordable hotel to lay your head at night, Splendid will serve the purpose.

We stayed in this hotel in December 2012. We beat them down on their quoted price as most places were empty. Very hospitable reception staff, room was nothing special, but clean and did the job. Also had a sunny balcony, though no furniture on it. A little noisy from the stairwell, though delightfully Parisian in terms of decor in the hall and stairwells,
No breakfast, does have a garden which looked nice, but was a bit too cold to go into.

Room Tip: Bater on price and ask to see first.

The splendid hotel is in the center of rabat, in a nice little street just few steps from the medina. My room, on the 4th floor, was little but nice, the hotel is charmin and clean enough, and also very cheap( 20 euros for the double room). The consierge was little rude sometimes.

We choose this hotel because of the location, near the central station and close to the old medina. Rooms are nothing special, but are OK for the budget. We had a room facing the quiet green innercourt. Rooms are simply furnished. Bathroom is just big enough. No hot shower. Grumpy receptionist downstairs.

For one night this hotel is fine and that is just enough to visit the best sights of Rabat.

Unfortunately, we recently had a terrible experience at Hotel Splendid. We telephoned prior to arriving in Rabat and were quoted two different prices of Dh230 and Dh330, it seemed, depending on who telephoned (the lower price for a French-speaking male, the higher price for an English-speaking female). We went to the hotel anyway, as we found other hotels in the same range full, and were given a room on the top floor (attic) with ensuite bath for Dh230. I took a shower immediately upon checking in, and while in the shower, the man from reception banged on the door and demanded that we leave immediately because he could not find any entry reference number in our passports. We tried to explain that the official at the airport had forgotten to stamp the number in our passports, that we had had no trouble at any other hotels, that we were permitted visa-free entry, and that we planned to visit the police prefecture in Rabat to obtain the numbers as soon as we had the chance. He refused to listen, and shouted and threatened us irrationally and aggressively, even entering the room to attempt to pick up our belongings and throw them out into the hallway, nearly knocking me down in the process. Thus, while the rooms at this hotel might be decent, I cannot recommend it and would caution travellers against staying here.
