“The best that Rabat has to offer.”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

Quiet, no hassle from the "wanna be, fake guides"...a pleasant escape from the intensity that is the essence of most Moroccan tourist sites.

“Don't miss Chellah if you are in Rabat!”
Reviewed January 20, 2013

The remains of an Islamic school and necropolis on top of the ruins of a Roman city -- what's not to like? It's a beautiful archaeological site to just wander around and enjoy for an hour or two. Don't forget to pay the lady to feed hard-boiled eggs to the eels in the natural pool, and check out the storks and the cats. Worth paying a guide as soon as you walk in (there are no explanatory signs or guidebooks) but agree on a price up front.

“Beautiful, do not miss if you are in Rabat!”
Reviewed January 3, 2013

Chellah is absolutely beautiful! I was there at the end of December and it was very green and lush with loads of storks. The Roman ruins are okay but for me the remains of the Merenid mosque, medersa, and necropolis were more interesting. Both excellent though. Other posters have described the site so I don’t feel the need to go into too much detail, but just wanted to say that it is as great as others have said. I’ve been living in the Rabat area for a bit over a year and had put off visiting because it is a little outside the medina and Centre Ville areas, but am so glad I finally went and absolutely worth the walk (about a mile from the Rabat Ville train station), though a cab would be quicker if you do not have much time in the city. Only 10 Dirhams (equal to about $1.25 or €1) for admission to what really winds up being almost three sites between the Roman ruins, the Merenid ruins built right next to/on top of the Roman town, and the lovely plants and storks.

“Come for the Ruins, Stay for the Storks!”
Reviewed January 2, 2013

I love old roman ruins, and travel the world to see them. This was a gem to stumble upon in Rabat. Though not large, the red hues of the Islamic walls and old Roman ruins were stunning against the blue of the sky and the green of the olive trees and grass. The big surprise was the hundreds of storks nesting on top of all of the buildings. Serious stork sightings. Come for an hour or two and just wander around. No need to pay for a guide, but you will be approached by many wanting to fulfill this service for you...for a price.

“A gem -0 a must see”
Reviewed January 1, 2013

I've always loved romantic ruins - and the Chellah rivals the best. At the edge of the city a mixture of Roman and Islamic Ruins - and storks galore nesting on the rooftops. I have been here 3 times over 20 years and it has always been quiet and dreamy. Even the security has a very light touch. And the cats add to the grace and beauty. Don't miss it
