“Combine with Mausoleum visit”
Reviewed June 18, 2014

This is adjacent to the Mohammad Mausoleum so stop and visit. The Tower remains unfinished but you can see it from all over Rabat.

“What an awe-inspiring site!”
Reviewed June 9, 2014

Adjacent to the Mausoleum of Mohammed V is the Hassan tower. We learned that construction started in 1195 A.D. and ceased in 1199 A.D. The tower which was meant to be the highest minaret and the largest mosque in the world still has the palings which were meant to be the base for the mosque.

The esplanade is huge and the completed project would have undoubtedly been magnificent. It is worth the time to take a walk through the pilings up to the tower to gauge magnitude of this unfinished project.

Quite a site to see with a lot of history. Before you visit, read up on the history to develop a greater appreciation for this site.

“A Square Minaret”
Reviewed June 4, 2014

Minarets in Morocco are square. The Hassan Tower is no different. It is on the side of a huge outdoor mosque in the same complex as the Mausoleum of Mohammed V (who was a much beloved king of the people who peacefully liberated Morocco from the French). The tower is not finished, and had some earthquake damage along with some of the walls of the mosque.

“Worth seeing along with Mohammed V Mausoleum”
Reviewed June 1, 2014

Our small group tour van made a quick stop at the Mohammed V. Mausoleum, and you see this off to the side as you walk towards the mausoleum building. It's definitely worth a photo... the minaret is the only part of a planned mosque that was built.
