Staff were fairly friendly, food was very cheap and tasty enough, with no negative effects on my gastrointestinal system afterwards.

A bit like a greasy spoon, had suitably grumpy service and mediocre grub at rock bottom prices.

Hygiene was really on the edge, judged by the condition of the sanitary services (the sink wasn't cleaned for a couple of weeks), so if this is an indication of what happens in the kitchen...

Finding a restaurant in the medina of Rabat is not so easy. There are the super-expensive ones (Dinarjat, etc.), and lot's of little street stalls, but finding a real sit-down place can be a bit tricky. Overall them tend to be on the medina margin (Ave Laalou, or Ave Mohammed V). At the southern end of Ave Mohammed V are a few real restaurants, and the Liberation does have a clean, inviting look. The menu (only in Arabic and French) is fairly expansive (soups, omelets, fish, couscous [apparently not always available] and some stews - in addition to Moroccan dishes also some more western items such as french fries and rice). Food came very quickly and was overall solid, and very inexpensive (mains between 20 and 35 dirham, mint tea only 4).
In sum, it's a no-frills but reliable place for some honest Moroccan fare.
