If you don`t want or can`t stay in the medina, the Hotel Ibis is a very good option, just in the middle of both worlds : just at the gates of the beautiful medina, although the market and more tourist oriented area is well inside, and the dirty modern part and railway station, with more restaurants than in the old city. It´s a little uphill in both walks, the hotel is situated in the green riverbed, easily reached by car and with parking espace in front of the building.
Our room was bigger than other Ibis hotels, clean, and with some traditional touches like tiled floors or lattice in windows. We were in winter, but I think that the a/c and the pool is severely needed in summer.Service is very good, people is friendly and always accomodating.
Breakfast is the usual fare.

Location is right smack in between the Medina (old town) and the Ville Nouvelle (new city). It is walkable both ways (15 minutes), especially easy once you have oriented yourself with maps.

Service was excellent (compared to the Ibis in Casa), the rooms were bog standard Ibis quality, but that was good enough for us. There was an inviting looking pool, and a supply of orange juice, small pastries and free internet in the lobby. Strongly recommend this hotel for its convenience, and cleanliness.

McDonalds and Pizza Hut is right outside the hotel, and interestingly seems to be the hang-out place for rich local kids after dark. Also Cafe Dawliz just up the slope from Pizza Hut seems to be a cool place at night.

Some tips for Meknes --
1) Eat at a riad. Prices are reasonable compared to Fez/Marrakech, and the food is fantastic. We had top notch meals at the Riad Bahia, and Riad Mille Et Une Nuits, both easily located from the main medina square. Do not miss the food at Riad Bahia.

2) Walk in the souks. Let yourself get lost. They are more local and authentic than those in Fez or Marrakech, and are amazingly crowded in the early evening.

3) Go to Moulay Idriss en route to Volubilis. It is worth a stop to see the small town and its nice atmosphere. They sell great nougat there too.

I booked a room for 2 adults and a child. Unfortnuately they only had rooms for only 2 people but they made an exception by letting us have an extra mattress.
The staff are very friendly and helpful.
This hotel is in a safe and modern part of Meknes. Mcdonalds and Pizza Hut were just outside.
Security is good.
Helpful in arranging a taxi from the Hotel to Fez airport (400 DIrhams)
It took about 75minutes to get there.
The Old Medina is about a 15 minute walk but it is uphill.
Breakfast was ok especially the orange juice
The pool was a bonus but the water is cold early on in the day.

As always in Morocco Ibis was a good choice. Everything is very new (not as in many other 3 star hotels in Morocco) and clean. Location is ok, but you have to walk around 15 minutes to the Medina. We paid around 45 EUR for a double room (breakfast not included), what’s not that cheap for Morocco.

While there are no doubt worse options, there are many better options. The location is ok, 1/2 way between the medina and the train station. You can walk to the square or medina in under 30 minutes. It isn't the worst Ibis I have stayed in but not the best either. The TV was broken, with no remote and the AC didn't work either. There is on going renovation and the noise and smell is an issue. The breakfast is the simple, limited spread at every Ibis. I had two larger issues. The first was that the hotel did not honor the internet rate I had been promised - showed up with a confirmed reservation and printout showing the total for two nights should have been 814 DHM but the hotel would not honor it and was charged 998 DHM. The second was that I used the pool. I felt very uncomfortable, being glared at by several women by the pool and oogled overtly by two male staff members. Apparently the pool is the domain of children only.

It isn't the worst hotel ever but it is far from the best. Keep looking.
