Many places in Morocco after a series of good reviews seem to rest on their
laurels but not Riad Shaden. Having returned for our annual stay as part of
our wider Moroccan holiday we find the Riad has improved in every sense.

The riad has had a refurbishment which included new bathrooms and flat
screen televisions [not that we watch TV whilst on holiday]. It was good to
see the same staff were still there as ever helpful friendly and welcoming

The breakfasts are excellent with plenty variety we also had two evening
meals there which were also superb the second of which was used as a cooking
lesson at which we wrote down everything to enable us to prepare the same
three course meal when we got home.

We would like to say a special thank to Youssef the manager who every year
deals with our usual self inflicted problems, last year floods whilst
camping, this year forgotten passports at a hotel, we are such a challenge
for him but he is always friendly and helpful and we feel we can count him
as one of our friends and are already looking forward to seeing him again
next year.

Youssef's assistant Said has really grown into his job and is now perfectly
capable of running the riad on Youssef's days off,

The three girls are always efficient and besides providing wonderful
breakfasts and dinners keep the riad spotlessly clean and tidy.

The five staff compliment each other and make a first class team.

We stayed at Riad Shaden in December, it is a beautiful riad in a quiet neighbourhood. Our room was well appointed, and had everything we needed. The staff (especially Youseff and Said) are so helpful and were always around to give us advice. The meals in the riad are very good (value and choice) and we are glad we chose to stay here for our first trip to Morocco.

This was a fabulous place to stay.  A Riad is an open courtyard type apartment. This one was inside the walls of the old city about a 15 minute walk from the main square and right in the heart of (but just outside of the traffic of) the market streets.  The Riad courtyard and rooms we're beautifully decorated and well appointed, the meal we had there was delicious and the manager, Said, was very helpful and accommodating.  They even severed us welcome tea and biscuits upon our arrival which was great for a weary family of 5.  We'd highly recommend it.

We only stayed one night before starting our tour. The Riad was a bit too far from the main square for us to find our way on the first night. But it was an interesting local neighbourhood that we would have explored more if we had stayed longer.
We had an evening meal in the Riad which was fresh and tasty, and we could drink the wine that we had brought with us.
The room was beatifully decorated, but it was small and the bathroom was particularly cramped. Unfortunately we could hear when the person upstairs flushed the loo as it sounded as if the waste pipe was in the corner of the room. It was noisy in the morning when people started coming down for breakfast.

Room Tip: AVOID the first room on the left on the ground floor!

This is my second trip to Marrakesh and also my second time staying at Riad Shaden. This is a beautiful Riad with five star accomodations situated in the district of Bab Aylen. The rooms are all beautifully decorated in a very typical Moroccan style. My room this time around was the `Quarda Suite` which is an extremely spacious room with a very stylish shower room complete with brass sink. The Riad is run by a very efficient staff of five who go over and above to make sure your stay is a memorable one. Youssef ( manager) and Siad both greet you with a lovely smile to start your day and help you with anything you wish to organize, whether it be a trip to the Atlas mountains, Sahara Desert or relaxing in a Hamam. If staying in the Riad for an evening meal I can highly recommend the `lamb and prune tagine`, delicious! I believe you can also arrange to have a cookery lesson so you can prepare a tagine when you return home.
I had a fabulous time in Marrakesh, I took a trip to the Sahara which was a great experience, rode on a camel and slept in a `hyma` tent.
I do hope to go back again in a couple of years and most probably it will be to stay again at Riad Shaden.
