Description: In the heart of the Medina and Souks of Marrakech lies the Rahba Kedima spice square, where old women gather to pound henna for traditional tattoos and sell hand knitted hats, while seasoned vendors run the surrounding spice stores. Within this setting is the now famed Cafe des Epices, the perfect meeting place and rest stop from the heat and commotion of the souks. The inexpensive menu is focused on the simple and fresh, offering teas and coffee, freshly made juices, sandwiches, salads and crepes. The design is correspondingly simple: deliberately paired down and basic in order to offer a peaceful resting place after the visual overload of the Souks. Built over 3 floors, the top terrace offers great views over the square and surrounding Medina, the non-smoking 2nd floor salon is a great place to lounge and the ground floor and outdoor tables are fantastic places from which to watch the colourful comings and goings of the spice square market. Open daily from 9am to 10pm

“Sanity”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 19, 2013

Just as other reviewers have written - this is an unpretentious cafe in a colourful part of town. The service is fine and the food and drink perfectly OK. The wooden spoons for the soup are a bit different, though.

Great place to relax on one of the three floors, each of which has its own charm.

Dear Whittlesford,

Thank you for taking time to write a comment on café des épices.
Glad to hear hat you liked the place,
You're right! the spoons are different, it's the traditionnel spoons with what Moroccan drink soup, and we want our guests to try it.

Wish to see you soon.

“Nice place, food so so”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 8, 2013 via mobile

Nice and amusant place to take a break. We had a vegetarian sandwich which was very tasty but a little bit poor: 4 slices of bread: 2 with tomato and 2 with advocado. We were waiting for a real sandwich with more "things" inside.

“Great for watching the world go by”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 7, 2013

We stopped here for a mint tea after finding the spice market . A lovely place to watch the colourful market with a welcome rest from the souks. Would recommend the market and good toilets for a cafe. Would go back to sample more based on helpful staff and location

“Good time + Le Jardin”

Café des Epices is great, but the guys there told us about their new venture, Le Jardin, which is a hidden gem. Both are highly recommended.

“Just ok”

Staff friendly but limited menu. We missed the roof terrace which may have been nicer than the small terrace on the ground floor.
