Description: In the heart of the Medina and Souks of Marrakech lies the Rahba Kedima spice square, where old women gather to pound henna for traditional tattoos and sell hand knitted hats, while seasoned vendors run the surrounding spice stores. Within this setting is the now famed Cafe des Epices, the perfect meeting place and rest stop from the heat and commotion of the souks. The inexpensive menu is focused on the simple and fresh, offering teas and coffee, freshly made juices, sandwiches, salads and crepes. The design is correspondingly simple: deliberately paired down and basic in order to offer a peaceful resting place after the visual overload of the Souks. Built over 3 floors, the top terrace offers great views over the square and surrounding Medina, the non-smoking 2nd floor salon is a great place to lounge and the ground floor and outdoor tables are fantastic places from which to watch the colourful comings and goings of the spice square market. Open daily from 9am to 10pm

“Delicious cheese and green olive sandwich”
Reviewed May 14, 2013

This is a really fun respite from the souk. Roof terrace with great view, soaking up the atmosphere but with some peace and quiet. Absolutely delicious cheese and crushed green olive sandwich. Always good! I've been time and time and again and love the atmosphere. Convinced their are some hippies that have been hanging out there ever since the seventies!

“Nice n Quick break”
Reviewed May 13, 2013

This is a nice little cafe to stop over in while on a trip to the souk.

The food is good, tasty.
The service is efficient.
The value for money is great.
The only trouble is getting a seat inside sometimes as there can be quite a bit of waiting.

No-fuss, quick meal

The only downside is if seated outside, it can get pretty hot and uncomfortable.

“great pit stop”
Reviewed May 12, 2013

Perfect little place to grab a sandwich (I had chicken- delicious & cheap) or a cup of tea and people watch. The staff was extremely attentive & friendly, they even remembered us from visiting 2 days in a row. Great find

“Excellent Little Cafe”
Reviewed May 10, 2013

This place is an excellent mid-way stop in the Medina. It's pretty cheap, so we visited a couple of times, sometimes for a Coke, sometimes a mint tea (which you have to pour yourself - we made a mess!). It supposedly offers free wifi, but we never managed to hook up to it.

“Not sure what all the fuss is about?”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

Having read many positive reviews (here and elsewhere) we recently tried Cafe des Epices for a late lunch and whilst it is OK I really struggle to understand what all the fuss is about. We had sandwiches, they were OK, nothing better, as was the service, however the coffee was pretty good! For me, best thing about Cafe des Epices is being able to sit and watch life go on in the market below.
If only the food was as interesting as the view!
