“Comptoir Darna Restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2012

After a little research on TA for a entertaining restaurant, I came across Comptoir Darna. I had reserved a table for 21:30hrs for my wife and I, by email from the UK before we arrived in Marrakech based on the belly dancing entertainment. On the night (Wednesday), we got a taxi around 20:15hrs to the restaurant from our hotel (Zalagh Kasbah), which cost 50 dirhams and a 10 min drive. As soon as the taxi pulled up, the doormen opened the taxi door for us and greeted us with a very welcoming warm smile asked if the journey was ok (wasn't expecting that at all). As the doors opened the restaurant floor was busy with a traditional band playing, sitting on the stairs in front of us. We were shown up the stairs to the next level, where it was less busy and somewhat quiet, but we were assured that this would soon fill up. Rest assured, by 21:00 hrs it started to get busy and the atmosphere livened up. The restaurant was dimly lit with candles, which was nice. The meal was very average, and wasn't indicative of the surroundings. At 22:30hrs the belly dancing started, the lights dimmed even more and this was the best part of the night in our opinion. The dancers were absolutely brilliant and made the night, even though it lasted about 25-30 mins.
As we left the restaurant the doormen asked if we required a taxi. I hadn't prebooked so I asked for a taxi. They asked how much I wanted to pay for a taxi and I replied no more than 50 dirhams. Immediately, they went into the middle of the road and flagged down a passing taxi - had a quick word and ushered us into the taxi and 10 mins later we were back at our hotel and paid 50 dirhams to the taxi driver.
To summarise: Food was average. Entertainment was excellent. Doormen were well mannered and very welcoming and helpful.

“Outstanding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2012

Please if you go to Marrakeck, go to this restaurant, food, wine and service was excellent, the night was excellent from start to finish, entertainment in traditional belly dancing was great and there is also a late night bar after you have finished your meal, pre book as the rstaurant is usually fully booked for a day in advance, you won't be disapoointed.

“Extremely rude service and incredibly overpriced”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2012

We visited this place specifically to see the belly dancers. we ate dinner next door (Extrablatt - fantastic food, fantastic service, worth the little extra money), and thank god we did. We arrived and it seemed to be a problem that we only wanted a drink. We sat at the bar, bar staff were extremely unfriendly and unhelpful. After asking 3 times if we could sit on one the the free tables we were told that we were not allowed a seat unless we were eating. A diet coke was £4.50 and served in a can. The belly dancers were nothing special, just wiggling their hips around diners who were stuffing notes in their bras and waistbands. Full of old perverts. My advise if you do want to see the bely dancers, go at 10:30 (when they start) and skip the drink.

“A Must for a fun evening”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2012

We hadnt reserved a table and turned up. We were advised to wait in the bar as there would be a 20 min wait. The bar area had a great atmosphere, full of people and some local entertainment with belly dancers. The 20 mins flew just like that before we were seated. My 3rd visit over 4 years and each time the food is better. This is definitely on my must do next time I visit Marrakech.

“do it once, for a fun night out ...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012

We went as a group of 4, so got the chance to try different things on the menu ... pretty standard moroccan and 'international' fare, premium pricing due to the 'pretty lavish' belly dancing show that comes on at 10.30 and goes on for at least 30 minutes ...
we got good service overall (maybe the fact 2 of our group were moroccan made a difference), the waitresses were pretty and efficient, and the choice of drinks is wide (including my favorite pastis, Badouin)..
wouldn't come here for the 'food only', but I'd recommend you do it at least once, for a fun night out, in a group...
