My wife and me spent a fabulous week in Riad Davia, which was made all the more special by the wonderful service provided by Achraf, Said, Nafida and all the other staff. They couldn't have done anything to make us feel more welcome.
From the moment we got through customs at Marrakech airport, we were in safe and friendly hands. Our transfer was included as part of our deal for staying over 4 nights, as was the wonderful Moroccan meal we sat down to about an hour after we touched down.
The staff were very welcoming on arrival and it is true that the riad would be impossible to find without either a guide or prior knowledge. It is located down a maze of narrow streets which are full of life, atmosphere, exotic aromas and lots of local colour. However, it doesn't take long to get your bearings and the 15 minute walk to Jemma el Fna was a different experience every time we did it.
It was always so relaxing to arrive back outside the little door of the riad, knowing that all that noise and the pandemonium that makes Marrakech so intriguing, but also quite a tiring place to visit, would soon be on its other side. Once inside, the riad is a perfect oasis of calm - hard to imagine outside that door! The whole riad, and our room (Dawiya) was a wonderful place to retreat after a hard day pounding the streets. The little balcony looking out over the courtyard was an added bonus. The rooms were always spotless and tidied up when we arrived back after a day out. It was also great to have free access to the internet, which worked properly.
We ate 2 meals at the riad, which were beautifully cooked by Hafida. She asked us what we'd like to try in the morning and it would be ready for us when we wanted it later. Her pancakes were also wonderful each morning (especially the square ones!).
Achraf, the manager, was also very helpful and organised our hire car which we booked for a day for about £35. We drove the 40km to the Atlas mountains in the morning the later in the afternoon we drove it around the city, which was interesting to say the least and not for the faint hearted! He also booked and collected our bus tickets to Essaouira, which was very helpful too and well worth the trip.
Overall, I have to say that this was without doubt the best service I have ever received on any of my trips over the years. The riad is beautiful and you wont be disappointed!
Thanks again to all the staff and especially Hafida for my wonderful birthday present!!! x
