“A real Oasis”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 13, 2012

I went there with my wife after an exhausting week in Marrakech. We were welcomed by the owner and he showed us around the available "places" so we can choose one.
We chose a beautiful suite with a living room and we loved it. The food looked good too but unfortunately I forgot to mention the staff I was vegetarian so I just ate the side orders...
The views, the atmosphere and the little town next door are unforgettable.
Weird to read all the bad reviews of such a unique place.

I brought 14 of my friends to this place and we were all stoked of the atmosphere. Middle of nowhere they have created a place full of romance and mystique. We didn't sleep over, but I am quite sure that must be fantastic. The food was good, the staff attentive and it all felt a bit like 1001 night. Warning: it takes a while to get out there (1 hour from medina), and there is a bumpy ride, but it is worth it. Try to get there before it gets dark so you can experience the sunset.

Chose La Pause based on Lonely Planet review and superb looking website. Sadly, the reality was v different and we had a really poor couple of days. The place was poorly run (no service at all and dirty). The activities on the website we not available (apart from camel riding) and the pool was unusable. The worst thing though was a couple of mangy dogs roaming around which wouldn't leave us alone (and me and Mrs are dog lovers!). We also had dodgy weather which didn't help. We ended up complaining and were given a refund, but it still spoilt our holiday :(

In fairness to La Pause I believe the owner was ill when we visited and is normally more hands on in the running of things. They also dealt with our complaint well.

Room Tip: Find out if the owner is around before booking

We were there in the spring for one night and it had just poured the evening before. Regardless, we had a wonderful stay just our family of 3 and friends, a family of 4. No one else there. The food was absolutely delicious served in the tent by candlelight with plenty of blankets to keep us warm in the evening. He lit the big bon fires for us as well. Our bungalow was towards the bottom by the creek and it was a dream with a large living room, huge bedroom and two bathrooms. Fantastic atmosphere so warm and cozy, two fireplaces, candles everywhere too. Our friends' place was situated on the hilltop, it was huge and could've slept us all, plus! But, also very warm and pleasant. Breakfast was a feast and they just kept it coming. Because we were the only ones there and no show, plus the place was kind of rained out, they didn't charge us for alcohol or soft drinks the whole time. It was a wonderful experience & yes, I would do it again. Peaceful & serene. loved it

Room Tip: another bungalow by the creek is also very nice but no actual doors, just curtains facing the desert...

Morocco is a country where all your senses are teased at a time. After getting marvelled and intoxicated with the - sometimes rough and so different- beauty, the sounds, the flavours, the smells, the colours and the impressions of the Medina, a driver from La Pause picked us up at our Riad to take us to La Pause. After almost an hour driving, which I enjoyed absorving the landscape and crazy traffic, we arrived to the isolated oasis that is La Pause.
Mixing local materials and technics with exquisite taste, La Pause managed to unite the experience of basic accommodation with top-notch service. No electricity, spartan shower/toilet facilities and little more than beduin tents as restaurant and rooms, are compensated by the charme of the place, the tranquility and beauty of the landscape and the 1001-night atmosphere in the lovely rooms.
We stayed for a night and enjoyed amazing meals for lunch, dinner (candle light!) and breakfast. The service is excellent, the local - and of course homemade- food abundant and absolutely delicious, accompanied with good local wines.
Relaxing by the swimming pool - surrounded by olive trees -, a walk or horse riding are some of the ways of enjoying this fantastic place. I went horseriding before sunset, a breathtaking experience.
We were with a large group so I got to see several rooms, and I think mine was the best: the one located most distant from the reception building, with only 3 walls and a (thick) curtain!, offering a magnifiscent view, lots of privacy and the comfort of a good bed and warm local decoration features.
La Pause was an unforgetable experience, enjoying nature, the most beautiful night sky and a joy for all the senses.

Room Tip: There's a lot of different rooms, from real tents to large apartments, you may want to find out...

We have just returned from a week in Morocco and spent three days and nights at La Pause. I cannot speak too highly of this wonderful, magical establishment: Everything - the setting, the atmosphere, the rooms, the food, the service - is of the highest class. The food is perhaps the best I have ever eaten. But what makes it is the hospitality extended by the genial and ever helpful owner, Frederic. You are made to feel like a guest in his own home: nothing is too much trouble for him or his kind and smiling staff. I would recommend it to anyone.

We were three girls aged 24-26 and visited La Pause for an afternoon and dinner.

We travelled wih our driver from our Riad in Marrakech and although the journey is a little long the sights along the way are incredible.

On arrival, we were escorted to the poolside and told to relax and make ourselves at home so we did! We swam and read our books and enjoyed the peacefulness and amazing surroundings. It almost felt like we were in the south of France until you looked out at the dunes!

We then had a bottle of wine and nibbles whilst watching the sun go down before being escorted to the "grande tent" and served a lovely meal - traditional morroccan - nothing immensely special but still wonderful!

After eating we had our dessert out on a cliff behind the tent counting the shooting stars and being dazzled by the fires lit all over the property.

Such a beautiful place, really felt like you were experiencing something special the whole time - for romance I would imagine it unbeatable.
