“An exotic and charming guest house”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

My friend and I stayed at Riad Carina for 5 nights in February and loved it. The Riad is full of character and its location is perfect: very central but quet. We certainly would not like to be any closer to Jemaa el Fna. Watching from the Riad's roof terrace at storks nesting at the roof tops of the Palais el Badi and listening in the morning to rattle they make with their beaks was a lovely experience. Riad has become our home away from home in Marrakesh which we've found at first a bit overwhelming. Many thanks to Meriam, Said and Zahiva for endless supply of tea and coffee and for making us feel as as if we were guests there rather than clients.

A fantastic living with a good location in Marrakech. We liked our room very much but next time maybe we'll choose one of the bigger rooms. The breakfast was really good with variety and we enjoyed it especially when we were served egg and soft cheese. At the riad we enjoyed 2 candlelight dinners och they tasted marvellously. Said who served us every morning and evening had a great way and he also gave us a CD with Maroccan music to enjoy back in Sweden. We warmly recommend the terrass on the roof with storks for relaxing in the sun. We are very satisfied with our stay and would warmly recommend it.

Having previously stayed at the sister Riad Diana, we were looking forward to our stay at Riad Carina. The location is excellent, adjacent to the Badi Palace and the Place des Ferblantiers (tinsmiths' square) - easy walking distance to pretty much every highlight of Marrakech.

We were made to feel extremely welcome, from the tea on arrival through to the transfer back to the airport on the last day.

We stayed in the Sahara room in the adjacent annex building to the main riad. This was extremely comfortable and quiet, with the only slight downside being the lack of wifi compared to the main riad. The Derb Touareg "street" is actually a narrow alley that was full of life during the day but was quiet and peaceful in the evening. It was evident that there are many family homes as well as a few riads on the street, with children playing outside happily every day whilst we were there.

We had booked airport transfers, a day of cookery lessons and an excursion to the Ourika Valley in the High Atlas mountains (I can recommend all of them). The riad team also provided a good map of the town, particularly for navigating the infamous souqs off the Djemma el-Fna main square.

You should be aware that whilst the riad stay itself can be paid for by credit card, the excursions and extras need to be paid in cash (euros or dirhams) as the payments are passed directly to the guides and other providers.

We had a fabulous time and would not hesitate to book Riad Carina again in the future.

This place is excellent and worth every MD. Well located in Medina, this riad is easy to reach both by cab and foot. Riad Carina is not a luxurious compared to many but the intimacy and the friendly staff creates a genuine feeling of being a guest in someones home.

Rooms: Small but charming. Good bathrooms with plenty of warm water. If you visit during the winter season, don't forget to bring a warm pyjamas. On the top floor, you can find a roof terrace which is accessible for all guests.

Excursions: The trips organized through Carina were more than you could have expected. Knowledgeable and helpful guides.

Prices: The cost level is low. Both relatively and absolutely. The standard is high for the low price.

Service: The staff with its 24h service and constant friendliness is what makes this riad outstanding.

Food: Don't hesitate to have lunch or dinner here. Definitely among the better places in Medina. If you ask the staff about the recipes they are happy to provide you with them. Amazing.

Stayed at the riad carina at the end of january with my husband. The riad is lovely, we stayed at their other room two doors away, it was beautifully furnished with a terrace. The staff are lovely, very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The breakfast was lovely, breads pancakes, yoghurts etc. if you ask them they will make you english tea. Thankyou for a lovely stay Riad Carina.

There are not enough words to describe the excellent service you will get from all the staff here.

From the moment you enter their door, a tranquil oasis awaits you and soothing mint tea is offered with a smile. Tea is offered 24/7 should you want it. Infact every time you meet them, they greet you with a smile.

Mariam will advise you generally so that you know how much to pay for items, Aziza makes wonderful crepes and parathas and Said is indispensable and willing to go the extra mile for you at all times. They are all so decent and they cannot do enough for you ; We asked what time is breakfast and Mariam replied " This is your home, what time would you like breakfast ?" We could have breakfast in the courtyard, terrace or even in our room.

We had the ground floor room next to the courtyard and even though other guests had breakfast or tea there, we were never disturbed.

The riad is in a perfect position, 10 minutes from the main square but far enough from the hustle and bustle. It's near the Saadin Tombs, Badia Palace and Bahia Palace.

Khalid (my name sake) the owner/manager is a font of all knowledge and was a joy to talk to.

The decor of the room was charming and beds firm. We had a heater which was more then sufficient and the air conditioning worked fine ( both hot and cold air should you need it).

Marrakesh is a good city to visit but its the experience of staying at the Riad Carina made the trip exceptionally memorable and Inshallah we will come back and only back to Riad Carina.

Thankyou Riad Carina.

Khalid.

Room Tip: e found the ground floor room to be good as it had a separate lounge

What a surprise it was to enter this haven just off a busy and frantic street... The hotel was in a traditional Riad and it was perfect! We got a room that was more of an apartment, beautiful and full of character! We both enjoyed staying there and would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Marrakech. Fantastic value for money, good breakfast and friendly service, I would certainly come back!
