“Terrible service in a beautiful oasischanged c!!”
Reviewed May 5, 2008

We arrived for a two night stay from 2nd May 2008, and were in awe at the rustic charm and beautiful garden oasis that greeted us. The attention to detail around the gardens, green grassed and flora and fauna was constant, unlike the service!!

Admittedly we had arrived an hour earlier than the midday check in and were told to wait for an hour. Fine we did, FOR 3 HOURS!!
After constantly talking and talking to the reception person, we got nowhere. Finally after 3 hours with nothing to drink, sat in the shade and no luggage, nothing! we were shown to our room. The sad excuse was, the previous occupant did not check out until 1.30pm. Not our problem, however our money.!!! They had not once confronted the former selfish occupant.
A welcome drink, a tour of the facilities anything, would have been welcome, however the useless article in reception, said and did nothing.
We later spoke to the Manager who offered us a free meal, the food was oily, tastless chicken tajine, however eventually he rectified the problem. We were still unhappy at losing a couple of hours of our day, especially for such a short stay and asked to keep the room until Sunday. We were met with a non commital, I'll see what I can do.

The room was very rustic, clean and pleasant.
The next day our toilet broke which we reported at 10am, after numerous complaints, it was finally fixed at 6.30pm that night. The ERRRRRRRRMMMMM "MANAGER" s response was he was not a plumber, this was not his fault and what could he do?? with a raised voice.!! Again we asked to keep the room for an additional couple of hours as we did not fly until 8pm that night.
None commital, uninterested and sarcastic, he explained they were fully booked. The final day was spent around the pool, trying to stay fresh and watching TWO new guests arrive.

After the previous RIAD ZOLAH (see review) this was like staying at FAULTY TOWERS compared to the RITZ. Unhelpful, none interested Manager and assistant. Terrible service, what a shame as the place is stunning!

  • Liked — The beautiful gardens and wildlife, flora and fauna!

Having booked two nights at this hotel and paid our £100 deposit we turned up to discover that the price of our suite was not going to be the £90 per night we'd expected but £150 per night.
With two young kids in tow we decided to give the guy on reception the benefit of the doubt and swallow the extra cost... after all, for that kind of money, in Marrakech you're going to get something good.

But not here. The room was dirty and seriously in need of maintenance to justify this rate.

We pointed out to the guy from reception that because of the condition of the place, at that price, it wasn't worth the money. He agreed. We told him to keep the deposit we were leaving.

Thankfully, we'd already called a taxi.

Then another guy turned up. (At first claiming to be the manager.)He was insistent that we pay the full, newly inflated price for the two nights. I declined.

They became more and more insistent. Then, unbelievably, the two of them started squaring up to me. Their face in mine.

Very fortunately for me the cab arrived and they momentarily backed off. We jumped in and went to far superior, friendlier accommodation for about half the price.

  • Liked — The prompt taxi service that got me out of there!
  • Disliked — The threat of violence was alittle off-putting!

If you need an example that even in Moroco places of non-hospitality do exist - go to this place.
Throughout our two week travel thru southern Moroco, that was definitely the worst place (all the others were excellent!!). Although the hotel itself is new and pretty well made (clay buildings, nice decoration, nice garden), the staff managed to quickly run it down: water taps not working/missing, broken doors, missing/broken chairs/tables. The managmenet walked by but did nothing about it. At night, the illumination with traditionel lights could be very nice, but not if half of the bulbs are not working.
The hotel is some 6km out of the centre. No problem, if there would be a shuttle service (as promiseed) or staff would be willing to call a taxi. This was not the case.
Finally at check-out, we had to argue about incorrect restaurant bills.
In summary a potentially nice place, but catastrophically missmanaged and unorganized. We had been told that the current management is in charge for just a few weeks - hopefully this will change again very soon.......

Our family of four spent four days in Jan 2008 at the beautiful Jnane Leila Hotel in the southern Marrakech suburbs. We had been a little nervous about booking as we usually check out our holidays on hotel review websites and found only one review but we decided to have faith and go by the stunning pictures of the hotel complex. Our faith was rewarded as this place is a real gem. The lack of web reviews due to it being a fairly new facility and a mostly French clientele, though they speak great English.

The hotel consists of 12 Arabian Night themed rooms and suites around a central pool and tropical gardens. The whole was super clean, safe and a picturesque photo opportunity. Since the hotel is small we received excellent personal service and the management arranged our taxis and tour guides.

Being 10 minutes out of Marrakech at first seemed an inconvenience and left us reliant on taxis but by day two we appreciated being able to leave the full-on, colourful, noisy and bizarre experience which is Marrakech for our quiet complex where all you heard were the cocks crowing and the call to prayers from the mosque.

My husband thought it was all very romantic and that’s a first!! A real find.

  • Liked — Beautiful pool and gardens.
  • Disliked — Nothing

I spent 3 nights at the Jnane Leila with my mum and my sister last weekend. We wanted somewhere authentically Moroccan and it definitely fitted the bill. It is a little way out of Marrakesh but not so far to be a problem and the taxis are very reliable. The hotel arranged a taxi to collect us from the airport and for any trips we wanted to make.

The staff were very friendly, and the rooms lovely. The only real downside and it's not something which should affect anyone else, the pool was closed as it was being re-tiled!! The restaurant food was fantastic, a bit pricey but when you add on the cost of taxis to and from town it probably balances out, and they do serve alcohol, which we couldn't get at restaurants in town, but it wasn;t a problem. Water and mint tea are fine. The breakfasts were fine, very continental, croissants, pain au chocolate, yoghurts and lovely soft boiled egss.

It is very pretty at night, the gardens are lit by lanterns and candles and it looks lovely. There is an on site spa and I had one of the best massages I have ever had. The rooms are spacious and clean and I think they all have a front terrace overlooking the gardens and (empty) pool, and we also a private enclosed courtyard at the back of the rooms which was in the shade all day and I imagine in the summer that could be a very welcome thing.

  • Liked — It was authentic
  • Disliked — Lack of open pool but that was temporary

The property had beatiful gardens, swimming pool and spacious rooms. The staff were very friendly. It was an excellent place to relax, away from the hustle and bustle of Marakesh, listening to the birds singing and cooling down in the swimming pool. Superb views of the Atlas Mountains could be seen from the roof terrace above the restaurant... WOW!!!

However, the food was limited as there were only a few dishes which we would consider to be good, but could have been of a much higher standard. We were served 'fish fingers' on our fouth night which were described as fish croquettes...'balls of fish' by the waitress. This does not match the ethos promoted on their website, ie 'organic fresh food cooked to the highest standards'. It was very obvious that these were frozen a dozen or so minutes before being served.

Please fell free to ask any questions.

  • Liked — The spaciousness, design and decor of the Batoule mini suite.
  • Disliked — The food as the menu choice was limited and standard of food did not match the description on the hotel's website.
