“Great stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 8, 2013

I stayed one night at this riad with my Dad and had a great time. We arrived at about 8.00pm after an exhausting 11 hours trip by bus coming from the sand dunes deep in the south-east of Morocco. I had confirmed our room the same day by e-mail via wi-fi during a short stop for drinks and snacks in a bar on the side of the road. I also had booked a couscous for two to be served in our room. We actually ate eat on the terrace in front of our room which was very pleasant and relaxing. Everything went very smoothly upon our arival at the riad. The room was great, on the second floor, large room, twin beds, very quiet, and clean. Confortable beds and linen, beautiful bathroom. Very clean everywhere. Staff is friendly and eager to help. Wonderful breakfast included in the rate of the room. Payment in Euros or Dirhams accepted as well as credit card. Not so easy to find when you don't have a detailed map of the medina. You might need the help of locals to guide you in the narrow streets of the medina if you arrive there by yourself for the first time. The hotel can provide such a map upon arrival which is very helpful to walk around the medina and the souks.

This riad is beautiful, well maintained and an oasis of tranquillity. The staff couldnt have done more for us, especially Ahmed the manager. We stayed for 9 days.
Our only comment would be that there needs to be more variety in the breakfast that includes fruit and vegetables but really everything else was wonderful. we would highly recommend.

Room Tip: Don't take ground floor level. the best is the roof top apartment which we were fortunate to be...

After a chaotic transfer where we were taken from the airport to the Riad's sister property 200m away, we settled into an oasis of scented calm in this charming residence.

The rooms all face the inner courtyard and the large roof terrace accommodates all guests either under shade or brilliant October sun.

It's a highly convenient location - just 5 minutes walk from the north west tip of the Medina's souk area. As you turn left out of the alleyway pick up supplies of cold drinks, sweets and nuts from the charming stallholder Bilal. Turn right and you can go to the Henna Cafe for a falafel sandwich.

Charm abounds at Dar Baraka too: Ahmed and his team go about busily catering for all needs. Breakfast is served from 8-11 either outside your room or on the roof terrace (if you can handle the wasps in your jam). Mint tea is always available. Dinner needs to be ordered at breakfast time with pastilla, tagines and couscous all on the menu. Ask for a bottle of wine if you like too.

The place is spotlessly clean. The rooms laid out economically with images of the Riad's conversion process. Everything works: plumbing, electricity and wifi (in courtyard area only).

Ahmed organised a driver for 900 dirham to take us on a 7-hour trip to the waterfalls in the Ourika Valley. We stopped on the way to see a Berber market (Friday only), a Berber house, a women's co-op making oil products. Another 200 dirham secures the services of a guide for two hours up to the waterfalls followed by a 120 dirham per head lunch by the river below.

Airport transfer was 150 dirham extra each way and is a must, or you will never find it.

I would strongly recommend this place.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the first floor - good for both wifi and mobile reception and more private than gr...

Our family of 5 stayed at Dar Baraka for 4 days. I can honestly say this place was perfect in every way. Very clean, beautiful decor, filling and tasty breakfast (tea, coffee, pancakes, orange juice, bread, jams, yoghurt drink). Close to the main madina (10 mins). Ticked all the boxes.

The workers seem very proud of their riad and always smiling. Everything is kept very clean we found nothing that was broken or not working as it should. Breakfast was served whenever we woke up. Shower always had hot water.

Make sure you arrange a transfer from the airport as it will save a lot of hassle in finding the place as its hidden behind some winding alleyways. We paid 250 dirrums for 5 people one way.

TIP: There's a small shop at the entrance to the alleyway. We used to buy drinks and snacks to eat at the riad in the evening.

To sum it up, you won't be disappointed. Enjoy your stay!

This Riad is very close to the Jemma-el-fna square and the souks; the way to get into the hotel took us through a path of alleys, which at first was scary but then became part of the charm of the hotel. The staff there are very very friendly and helpful. There was one amazing lady who couldn't speak English, but did everything she could to assist us! The rooms were clean and comfortable and breakfast was plentiful. If I am to visit Marrakech again I will surely be staying there!

Your stay in our riad was a pleasure, thank you for trust in our team for your vacation. Fatima greets you and wants to see you soon and also said to have had a good time at your service, even if she does not speak English well. Now the manager of the riad is back from his vacation, the language problem no longer posed. we are sorry for this inconvenient. Nadia.

We stayed at Dar Baraka for five days in May. The welcome was faultless and the large tastefully decorated rooms and amenities excellent. The riad is an oasis of calm, well located for access to the main medina (7 mins) and to the museum. Dinner on our second night was delicious served in the lovely courtyard surroundings. Breakfast on the roof terrace (or downstairs courtyard if damp) was very good. The riad is a bit off the beaten track, so would recommend that you take advantage of the airport transfer...saves a lot of hassles. Only real downside is for those keen to remain connected, they will be disappointed - the Wi-fi was patchy at best. That aside, all in all, a great place to venture forth into Marrakesh.

It is so gratifying to read your fantastic review! We loved taking care of you and we have some wonderful memories of your stay with us. Sorry for the problems wifi, the connection quality is not stable in the medina because of the thickness of the walls. we hoped that it did’nt leave a bad impression on the quality of our services. May be see you again in the futureTake care of yourself. Nadia

The Riad Baraka is clean, quiet, good-value accommodation for people looking to explore the true nature of Marrakesh. Hidden away down a slightly foreboding alley-way, the riad has five rooms - two each on the ground and first floors and a fifth on the roof-top. Breakfast is simple (continental) but filling, and can be taken on the roof-top (be aware of bees!), in the courtyard or in the games room. Our host Ahmed was always helpful and the service he provided was good - he gave us a map and some essential geographical information when we arrived. Located to the north-west of the main medina square, the riad offers a great location if you're intending to explore Jemaa el fna (10 minute walk), use the local bus station (10 minute walk), see the new city (15 minute walk) or get a train (30 minute walk to the train station). Unlike certain other locations within Marrakesh, which can be a bit tourist-orientated, you feel here that you're seeing the real-deal - Marrakeshi's living everyday life. A good place for backpackers, groups of friends and couples who want to spend more money on eating, drinking , sight-seeing and buying over-priced tagines than they do on accommodation!

Room Tip: In rooms on the bottom floor the call to prayer is barely audible but you do occasionally get noise...
