The Riad Altair is one of the best places I have ever been - the staff was nice and very helpful. We had dinner every night - it was delicious. Likewise, the breakfast was plentiful with a real marrocan coffee (also delicious!). I really can recommend this wonderful Riad to everybody! Many thanks again to the while staff!

My husband and I spent 4 nights at Riad Altair at the end of March. As other guests have mentioned the staff were very nice and helpful, the breakfasts were very good and the location was central. We would have given it a better rating if we had not been allocated the room on the roof, as this did not give us the Riad feeling that we were hoping for.
Although the room was adequate, we feel it would have been better suited as a single, as there was no door to the bathroom, only curtains, which also served as wardrobe doors. Also the room from the outside looked like a cell and the roof terrace is the worst place to be when the call for morning prayers occurs at 4am via the loud speakers!

Wife and I, late 50 & early 60's went for three nights Wed to Friday mid March 2014.
This was everything we hoped a Riad would be.
Gave you a real feeling for the country.
Room and bathroom very good.
Hospitality second to none, nothing was to much for them.
It came with breakfast which was plentiful and very good.
The dinners where also great.
15 minute level stroll to square passing Souk entrance.
Cant fault it and must say again all the staff could not be more helpfull and pleasing, allways had time for you.
Recommend to anybody and we would go again.

We arrived early afternoon after a car trip from Casablanca (not our favourite place) and were warmly and helpfully welcomed by Abdal who came out into the street to collect us and our luggage. (we may never have found this great hideaway otherwise. Down a few little alleys and suddenly we were away from the chaos of the busy areas around the small Mosque nearby.
Abdel offered us mint tea and a detailed and useful introduction to Marrakech, then took our luggage up to our rooms for us. The rooms were what we had hoped for, authentic and comfortable. With only a few rooms the Riad has a very cosy atmosphere.
We ate two of our evening meals here and must say the food was wonderful. Although much Moroccan food is sweet the chef catered to my inability to eat sugar admirably and my partner enjoyed her sugar hit. Badr, our waiter and general 'Man Friday' made us feel very welcome with his anecdotes and good humour. All the staff are friendly and helpful. They speak many languages between them and can probably handle most requests.
We hope to return here again in the near future and Riad Altair will be where we stay.
All the best to Badr and his Soccer career.

Marrakech is a noisy, bustling city with no traffic discipline and getting around can be quite stressful, so coming back each afternoon to this oasis of calm was one of the best things about our visit. We had two of our best meals here as well, and although wine is not on the menu, Abdul happily chilled the wine we bought elsewhere. Clean, gorgeously decorated rooms. Nothing too much trouble for staff. Would definitely stay here again. We had an excellent inclusive deal from British Airways, so can't really comment on cost.

We received a warm welcome when we arrived with mint tea and cakes. Our rooms were great, not huge but immaculate and well laid out with extras such as bathrobes. Fresh flowers on the table was an added detail we appreciated. There are only six rooms so it feels homely and all the staff went out of their way to give us help, advice and restaurant recommendations. the location was ok, a bit of a hike down to the square but the area is interesting and full of shops. We had very good breakfasts, slightly different each day. The views from the roof terraces were wonderful and there are several places to sit in or out of the sun on two levels.
We got used to morning prayers, (it is located next to the Mosque) so we did sleep through on day two.
Recommend the Jazz and cocktail bar at the La Maison Arabe and the food there was fantastic.(just round the corner from Riad Altair)
Recommend this Riad for short breaks with friends but please leave your young children at home.

Room Tip: ask for an upstairs room for privacy and less noise

We decided to take a short break in Marrakech and chose this small local 'Riad' rather than a non-descript hotel chain. This Riad had six rooms which were considered basic but clean and tidy with comfortable beds. Bathrooms okay but no shower curtain so made it a little wet all round. The staff were very friendly and efficient with early coffee not being a problem when requested from Yaseen and Badr - both great hosts. Breakfast was cold 'continental' style and was very good with loads of fresh fruit, various breads and yogurt. We had meals on a couple of evenings in the Riad - a set menu which changed each day and consisted of traditional Moroccan food - all cooked in house by their own young chef who was very good and we had no complaints. The Riad is not licensed and therefore you need to purchase wine from the local supermarket (not far but takes a 10 minute walk as it is outside the Medina) however there is a good selection at reasonable prices. I can recommend the nearest proper Hotel for a meal (just a 3 minute walk) - La Maison Arabe - it was very good and considering UK prices not expensive for the quality. Abdel, the hotel manager was also very friendly and he gave us good advice. Regarding Marrakech we would advise anybody travelling here to remember that 4 days is more than enough time for the trip - the Medina in Marrakech is full of tiny streets leading to the souks with many shops mostly aimed at the tourist and certainly this was not the cleanest city we have been to. It is a busy and sometimes overpowering, aggressive environment given the unwanted attention of a variety of locals and it was nice to find a good cafe/restaurant to get away from the streets - there are some nice 'modern' restaurants and we would advise you to use the Rue Dar al Bacha as we found it the most friendly. Remember that the local Mosque has a call to prayer twice in the early morning however this did not trouble us after the first night.

Room Tip: All six rooms in this Riad are similar however one on the ground floor opens directly onto the court...
