Staying at Riad Safa this week was the happiest 5 winter nights I can remember. Evenings in were spent on the warm roof terrace or in the comfort of our lovely room. We stayed in both Sumatra and Lipari rooms and both were beatifully decorated, as was the whole riad in the traditional moroccan style with lovely furniture and items from the nearby souks. We even sought out some of the items to bring home in the souks to recreate elements of the Riad back home! The rooms were tidied and cleaned each day and toileteries replenished by the time we got back to our room each day.

Jean-Michel and Frederic were friendly and very helpful hosts who looked after us very well as did everyone else who was working at the Riad.

The evening meal we had last night on the terrace was beautiful (and romantic!) as was the lovely breakfast served each day. The hosts also helped us to book a meal at the Fondouk restaurant and were on hand if we needed to book day trips or taxis.

Riad Safa was incredibly peaceful and quiet, unimaginably so at times when strolling around the bussling labrinth of the medina. It made a welcoming base for us to pop in throughout the day to either relax or bring back our purchases before recharging and heading out again.

Another great thing about the Riad was that everyone else staying there showed a great respect for the peaceful atmosphere that Frederic and Jean-Michel were working hard to create and this made all of the shared seating areas outside of the rooms a pleasure to be in with or without the other guests relaxing nearby.

To Jean-Michel and Frederic and everyone working at the Riad, thank you for everything and we hope to return soon to Riad Safa.

We stayed in Riad Safa for 10 nights altogether with a break in between to go to the coast. Our time spent in the Riad exceeded all of our expectations. We had a fantastic time with excellent hospitality. Frederic and Jean-Michel are extremely friendly / willing to help to organise your day if required but also have the balance of privacy. They make you feel extremely welcome in their Riad. They helped us organise a guide for a day, a trip to the Atlas mountains and a round of golf!

The other members of the team, support Frederic and Jean-Michel in running an efficient and friendly Riad.

The Riad has several lounge areas with 2 patios and a spectacular roof terrace which during the day is a lovely place to relax and if it gets too hot there is the jacuzzi to cool down in. In the evening you can dine in any of the areas including the roof terrace (where we got engaged!)

You can also experience the Hammam and have a fabulous massage too!

Hopefully at some point in the future we would love to return to Riad Safa!

We stayed at the Riad Oct 2007 and it was my first time in Morrocco and my partners second. We both loved the Riad. It was absolutly perfect. We stayed in the Tobago and even though it is the smallest room it was just right for us. The Riad is so relaxing, with sitting rooms all around. The staff are so friendly and Federic and Jean-michel were amazing hosts who were very accomodating and helpful. They are even able to provide a guide, Yousef, who could have showed us around if we wanted to. The last night we had dinner at the Riad and it was by far better than the meal we had at Fonduk and far more intimate. If it were possible I wish they had a Riad Safa in every city in the world because I would always stay there.

I can only confirm what other people are saying. Jean-Michael and Frederic are the most helpful and friendly hosts we have ever come across. My wife had a problem with her contact lenses and they even sorted that out with speed and efficiency. They are so good with advice, it seems as if you are the first people to have stayed there. They have created a lovely, peaceful place of rest - much needed in the medina!

Quite simply fantastic. Beautiful riad, impeccably run by its warm and friendly French hosts Frédéric and Jean-Michel. The rooms are not large but very comfortable and this is more than made up for by the several inviting sitting areas around the house and on the terrace. The Jacuzzi pool and the hammam were an added bonus. Dinner was delicious - we ate there on two occasions. They also helped us organise an unforgettable 2 day tour into the Atlas Mountains with Aziz – this was one of the highlights of our trip to Morocco and worth every penny. A real home from home and it almost pains me to recommend it too much as we’d love to go back and don’t want it to be all booked up!

We have stayed with 7 persons for four nights in the Riad. The Riad is an oase in the bussy town of Marrakech. It lays in the Medina, it is easy walking from te riad to all kinds of interesting places. The two owners, Jean Michelle and Frederique, are both French, very kind and know the town very well. They will give you all the advise you want and they arrange all kinds of transfer and taxies you need for a fair price. The riad is very beautifull, well decorated and nice rooms. The beds are very well. The breakfast is excellent, the service also. There is a huge terrace at the second floor. The price is fair. We will certainly return!!

what can be said that hasn' t already been said about the Safa?
from the transfer (an adventure itself) to the personal attention of Jean Michel to the wonderful breakfasts on the roof terrace I couldn't find a fault with the Safa. Jean Michel takes pride in giving the best and detailed advice of Marrakech. It was like staying at someone's house rather than a hotel.
I can only highly recommend the Safa.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Welcome at Riad Safa, a true haven of peace in the exciting Medina of Marrakesh.Riad Safa is located in one of the last authentic parts of the old city (medina), with some of the major cultural institutions just around the corner, and ten minutes by foot from the famous Jemaa el Fna square.Safa means serenity or pureness in Arabic, and it is our aim to provide you with a feeling of pure wellness during the longer or shorter time you stay with us. The atmosphere therefore, is very quiet. Even at the moments that the Imam of the neighbouring Mosque spreads his prayers over us; then you feel the mistery of the East and the presence of the languorous city.We speak English, French and Dutch and we love to help with everything you would want to be assisted with; whether it is a transfer from or to the airport, the booking of an excursion, or to have you accompanied safely home through the myriad of narrow alleys by our helpfull staff, after a 1001-night dinner in the medina. We want you to feel comfortable, and at home with us.Affordable luxury, that is what we want to offer you.Marrakesh is a bustling and buzzy city, so it is nice to know that after a tiring day of shopping in the souks (covered markets) or a visit to one of the palaces, you can immerse yourself in the lovely quiet of our Riad, and relax in one of the intimate "salons" or, during spring and summer, cool down at the small rooftop pool with a dewy glass. At night we offer a delicious "table d'hotes" in a romantic setting on the roofterrace, or indoors, just as you prefer.In-house hammam & wellness • we have a small hammam on the rooftopterrace, which you can book• on demand we can arrange for scrubs, massage, facials, pedicure and manicure. ... more   less
