Stayed at Riad Assouel for 4 nights in Dec 2011. Managed by a French couple who were courteous, helpful and friendly. Additional staff attentive and discreet. Lovely room, good amenities, tasty breakfasts. Ate in Riad one night and that was good too. They coped with my dietary requirements (booked in advance) without any reminders on arrival and we'd definitely return if we head back to Marrakech.

Where do I start? There are so many positives and no negatives. The rooms were great, the staff superb, it was clean and the food was Morocccan. There was a loittle pool and a roof terrace which was a great place to have breakfast, even in December. I would recommend that you try at least one evening meal in the Riad, because the service and food was excellent.
The Riad is in the old part of town which is a maze of narrow alleyways (maps are useless). On arrival telephone numbers are exchanged and if help is needed to get back to the Riad a quick phone call resuts in a member of staff showing up to guide you back.
Marrakech is a busy place, but the Riad is a place to relax and feel at home.

Room tip: All rooms are good.

We stayed at the Riad Assouel for a week, having left our own B&B behind in the UK and looking forward to a completely relaxing break. This Riad was the one included in our holiday package and we felt totally secure, having read the reviews. It is situated right in the Medina, tucked away in one of the medieval streets. One thing for sure is that the reviews just give a small insight into the amazing hospitality and friendliness you will receive from your host, Moutaa. She keeps a tight ship and it certainly pays off as everyone could not have been more helpful. We didnt want to spend all day everyday out in the Souks, and spent quite a lot of time in the hotel, and we were always made to feel very welcome with freshly squeezed juices on offer.

All of the rooms in the riad are decorated to a high standard, and beautifully individually designed. They each have aircon, which when the temperatures are in the 30s is most welcome after walking all day.

The evening meals are excellent and we ate in most nights and had a variety of specially prepared Morrocan dishes - mostly presented in the traditional tajine. Moutaa also spent some time with us, showing us how to cook using the tajine, and we have come home having purchased loads of spices in the Souk, to experiment here.

Moutaa is a gem, and has become almost a sister to us. She will organise private transfers for you, tours around the Souk, and if you get lost, her phone number will be in your pocket before you leave the riad. Nothing is too much trouble.

We cannot recommend this lovely riad highly enough to anyone who is looking for a relaxing break within a bustling city. We will definitely be returning, and Moutaa and her family are always welcome to stay with us in the UK.

Room tip: All the rooms are beautiful but the suites are delightful.

We stayed for 4 nights from 11-15 October 2011 leading up to my birthday. The welcome was fantastic which set the tone for the whole visit. The staff could not do enough. Moutaa, the manager, was extremely helpful and Mohammad was our own personal guide and protector! We were upgraded to a suite which was lovely - clean and spacious. Breakfast on the roof terrace was a great start to the day - huge and tasty so we didn'y need any lunch. We ate at the Riad twice in the evenings. Both nights were very special, especially the last night. Moutaa had arranged local musicians, balloons and a cake for my birthday. It was a brilliant evening - all of the staff joined in and there was dancing on the tables! I would highly recommend Riad Assouel and I would have no hesitation in staying there again.
