“Lovely, friendly hidden away Riad in Medina”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2008

We stayed in Riad Dar el Hanaa May 27-29, 2008 and found it a lovely Riad. It was, as others have said, quite difficult to find and we did have to ask even though we had a map as once you are in the small alleyways it is rather a maze. Once we had walked back into the main part of the medina we had no problems finding our way back though. We had the suite - 2 bedooms plus shower room - 1 double bed in one room and 2 single beds in the other. The rooms were nicely decorated and the outside area lovely. Breakfast was coffee, breads and pancakes served in the courtyard. Even had wireless internet, which is how I am writing this review at the moment. We leave tomorrow and will be sad to go. Less than a minute to the busy alleyways of the medina but peaceful and quiet in the riad. Was good to be able to pay the deposit (1/3 of total booking) through Paypal. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a quiet riad in the Medina - not luxury but comfortable, friendly and quiet - non-English speaking though.

We are 2 friends and we had a 3-days vacation in Marrakech, where we stayed at Riad Dar El Hanaa. We contacted directly the owner, who fully supported us providing info and allowing reservation via Paypal. Room rate was 55 EUR/night, breakfast included.
At your arrival in the Medina, the riad is impossible to be found on your own; ask somebody in the street to help you out or be sure the taxi driver can take you there. But after your first walk around in the city you easily get oriented: Dar el Hanaa is located in the heart of the Medina and 5 min walking to the Jemaa el Fna square.
The team took care of us, preparing delightful breakfast (their home-made strawberry jam is memorable!) and dinner (on request) and giving advice on restaurant, bank, etc.
Rooms are nicely furnished (pictures on the website stick to reality) and bathrooms (with Wc and shower) are realized in the typical Moroccan style.
The silent atmosphere and the tranquillity make Riad Dar El Hanaa the perfect location to relax (try also the sunny terrace!) after having strolled around in the chaos of the Souks.
I recommend it to anybody looking for a cosy, clean and comfortable place with a homely atmosphere.

We stayed here for 4 nights. The place itself is clean and pretty and people are lovely and helpful. But it is basic and an absolute nightmare to find . Theres no way you will find this place on your own. Our room was very small but the other rooms seem to be a good size so i think it was just due to our late booking over the Christmas period. The Riad is fine for a stop over for one or two days but if you're looking for some comforts well then its probably not the best place for you .

We spent 3 nights at Riad Dar El Hanaa in March 2007. Rooms are very nice, clean and charming. The courtyard is pleasant as well as the terrace on the roof. It's located in the Medina, very close to the suk and to Djem El Fnaa, the famous square. It's impossible to find it without a guide! Very good price per value (we paid € 65 per night / per room breakfast included).

We stayed over our guides misgivings and he was correct.. It was deep in the medina and the luggage cart person even got lost. Our guide took over and found it finally. Not at all what we wanted. A very bad area Rooms were worn at best.Bathroom was fine. But I got to sleep on a mat. We checked out after our meager breakfast

Wow, this place was a real find. It was recommended by a friend, which was just as well, as it's not a place we would have stumbled across. Like many of the wonderful places in Marrakech's medina, this riad is tucked down an uninviting alley. But inside it's beautiful, with bedrooms leading off a small courtyard garden planted with orange trees and a lovely roof garden. The decor and furnishings are simple, but comfortable, and the hospitality is excellent, with wonderful breakfasts prepared each day. Quirky points to note: no locks on the bedroom doors into the courtyard, and no doors on the toilets (only curtains). A great place to escape the heat, hustle and bustle of the city.

  • Liked — It's charm and location.
  • Disliked — Nothing.
  • Tips/Secrets — Make sure you accept the owner's offer of airport pickup - or you may never find the place!
