Masive palace modeled on palace in Granada Spain. Cost us 80pence each to get in, when we saw the inside hard to believe next to main area of Marrakech it is massive inside. Lots of interesting things to see underground rooms etc. is in the process of being done up but really good now. Storks nesting on the top of walls. DO NOT MISS THIS

One of the great things about visiting the sites in Marakkesh is that most all of them allow you to talk freely in any direction you want. The tours are not guided and very little is off limits. This allowed me to stroll through the gardens, wander the halls and find something to see in every nook and cranny.

The mosaic work is incredible. From the windows to the walls, the floors to the ceilings - the colorful tile and inlay dazzled the eye. Some rooms had ornate iron work for skylights and there were many Moroccan-style chandeliers to appreciate. There are many cats that wander the grounds.

I was fortunate to be traveling with a Frenchman - so he read all the descriptive signs to me. Everything is in Arabic or French so hire an English-speaking guide if you want explanations.

The palace is on the outskirts of the medina. Depending on where you are staying, it can be a lengthier walk. I recommend going in the morning when it is cooler and you have the most energy. The crowd is light and the morning breezes through the palace are lovely. From the palace you can work your way back through the colorful souks. It is an enchanting and serene experience to contrast with the bustle of the souks.

As beautiful as ever this is a visual treat that should not be missed. One can still imagine the life that was led in the exquisitely decorated rooms and how the walls would have echoed with the sound of the wive's and children's laughter!
There are cool courtyards with fountains and greenery, painted ceilings and doors, arabic friezes and endless rooms of colourful, patterned mosaic tiles.
It's difficult to choose a favourite room and this is all for just 10Dhm, €1, there can't be better value anywhere!
In comparison, the Saadi tombs are disappointing as the rooms are internally inaccessible - this palace tops my list of places to visit.
