“Excellent service and great location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2012

Had an excellent three night stay over New Year at this charming and beautifully-presented riad. The location is fantastic, a short walk from the main square and the major sights. The service from owner Jean-Patrick and his staff was brilliant, and we were made to feel very welcome.

Our deluxe double room was very spacious, with a comfortable bed, seating area and large bathroom. We ate dinner in the riad one night, which was delicious and extremely good value - well worth booking.

If you haven't been to Marrakech before, it can be difficult to find the riad as the street signs are confusing and it is down a small side street. Jean-Patrick arranged a return transfer to the airport for us, which was reasonably priced. We'd recommend first-time visitors to ask the riad to arrange a transfer on arrival as well.

Stayed for 3 nights in Dec 2011 really appreciated the owner Jean- Patrick's, personal attention to detail and to ensuring you absolutely had everything you needed. We stayed in the Africa room, tastefully and comfortably furnished. Staff could not do enough, always on hand providing discrete service. Thoroughly enjoyed a relaxing hamman on the premises and the local restaurant recommended to us - both romantic and authentic Moroccan experiences. Wonderfully cool courtyard and room awaiting after the hustle and bustle of the souks and the main square ,or you could use the real sun trap roof terrace to read or just chill out. The contrast is amazing and not to be missed.

We arrived at the riad quite late at night, and were a little bit shocked when our taxi driver parked at the end of a street and asked us to follow him down a winding and quite dark alleyway. However, our fears were soon dispelled when the door opened and we were invited into a beautifully decorated courtyard and offered a seat in a lovely lounge area. Mint tea and almond biscuits were provided whilst we filled in the relevant paperwork, and Salam also gave us a map and marked key attractions out for us. Jean-Patrick, the owner, was unfortunately not there since he had problems with his back, but he phoned us to personally welcome us, which was very thoughtful and a nice touch. We were shown up to our room (our bags had already been taken up for us) and asked when we would like to eat dinner (which we had booked in advance). After a quick freshen up, we went down to the beautifully laid dining room, to be served a feast: an assortment of briouats with salad and a tomato relish, followed by a delicious chicken and pumpkin tagine, an unusual but gorgeous combination, beautifully cooked and generously portioned (it was served in one large dish along with plenty of bread, and we each had a leg and a breast portion). A simple but refreshing orange salad rounded the meal off beautifully.
Breakfast the next day was equally lovely: yoghurt and honey, bread and jam, an assortment of pancakes, crumpet-type pastries or french style croissants and rolls, as well as orange juice and tea and coffee. Once again it was plentiful: we were always offered more once we had finished something.
In the daylight, we realised how close to the centre of Marrakesh we were: literally five minutes walk from the Jmaa-el-Fna, we were able to get almost to everywhere we wanted to on foot. It was a great base: we could go out for the day knowing that we would have somewhere relaxing to escape to and refresh in when we returned exhausted in the evening. The tranquil atmosphere of the riad was definitely welcome at the end of a busy day evading shopkeepers and getting lost in the city's winding streets. Our room was beautifully decorated, with shutters opening onto the patio (which were opened for us during the day and closed at night, at the same time that our bed was made up for us). Later in the week, Jean-Patrick offered to transfer us to the suite, since it was unoccupied, but we were perfectly happy with the room we had and so opted to stay there. Equally lovely was the huge roof terrace, with sun loungers and benches: a place to relax and gaze out over the city and towards the Atlas mountains. Unfortunately it was too cold for us to have breakfast there in the mornings, but I can imagine that to do so would be the perfect start to the day.
As well as being a wonderfully furnished riad, what really made Dar Silsila stand out was the care and attentiveness of the staff. Whenever we saw anyone, they would greet us and ask how our day had been or how we were enjoying our stay. Jean-Patrick, when he returned to work, would see us in the morning and ask about our plans for the day.
We found a leaflet for a cookery course at another riad, and asked Salam to enquire about it on our behalf. However, when the organisers were delaying in replying, he searched on the Internet and found another alternative, for the same price, which he offered to book instead (and in fact turned out to be one of the highlights of our holiday). We were also delighted when we went to leave on the last day to be told that, since no-one was moving straight into our room, we could occupy it until the end of the day (we were leaving at 6pm, check out is usually at 11am). It was this kind of small touch which made our stay there so pleasant.
I would definitely recommend Dar Silsila as a riad providing exceptional service, and as a great base which enhanced our stay in Marrakesh.

Room Tip: We booked the standard and it was spacious and airy.

Really great stay, great service, but not over the top and certainly not in your face. Location can't be faulted, although not the easiest place to find first time, but hey, that's fine, it's back street location is half of the charm. For the price a gem. Would certainly recommend to a friend. Thank you.

Dar Silsila is a very friendly place to stay in the centre of Marrakech. Close to the centre, about 5 minutes walk to the main square, this is a quiet and peaceful Riad and it has plenty of communal spaces to escape the bustle of the Medina including a lounge, two courtyards and a roof terrace. Our room was very comfortable, clean and nicely decorated. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and kindly arranged our train tickets and added them to our hotel bill.

I'd suggest arranging a taxi from the airport / train station with Dar Silsila as it is a little tricky to find - although this seems to be fairly typical of most Riads in the centre of Marrakech.

I highly recommended Dar Silsila and we would definitely stay there again.

The owner and the staff made sure that I enjoyed my first trip to Marrakesh. The owner was very helpful and arranged a walking tour guide for me on a very short notice.
The staff where very polite and very helpful. Especially Fouad and Salam.

Stayed here for 2 nights and it was fabulous. JP arranged a transfer from the airport which was greatly appreciated as i would have been quite nervous wandering down the narrow alley to the riad. the door opened and it was like a clam shell opening to reveal a pearl. Salam greeted us in pristine uniform, mint tea and homemade biscuits followed in the lovely homely lounge and we were given a map and ideas to help plan our stay. the owner was wonderfully friendly and could not have done more to look after us. our room was lovely - very romantic and we wish the weather had been warm enough to sit and linger on the roof terrace. breakfast and excellent and the staff very attentive. We would be very happy to return
