From the minute we arrived at the airport at 1.30am in the morning (delayed by over 3 hours thanks to Air Maroc) until our departure we were taken good care of by the hotel drivers and staff and were made to feel most welcome - nothing was too much trouble.
Whilst it is only right to point out that there are some limitations to the facilities and some renovations are definitely well over-due (for example our bathroom fittings were old and didn't work especially well - and it would have been good to have a proper shower and shower curtain not just a bath with shower attachment) we were, overall, very pleased with our suite, the common rooms, pool and gardens. Our suite overlooked the garden, consisting of a good sized sitting room, a large bedroom and a bathroom (bath only) was very clean upon arrival and was kept clean by the attentive staff throughout our stay, as were the common rooms, pool and gardens. There were nice touches, such as fresh rose petals in fountains and scattered in our room on our arrival.
We were lucky enough to benefit from a promotional rate for the hotel and we considered it to be very good value for money. The hotel's management is clearly in the process of generally renovating and up-grading this hotel and there are some newer suites outside of the "old" part of the hotel which, from the outside at least, seemed pleasant - if less characterful. We did not sample dinner in the hotel as we chose to eat out in the Medina but we overheard other guests at breakfast commenting that the food was fine though expensive. Breakfast, included in the rate, whilst not overly imaginative was plentiful.
The common rooms with their art and antique furniture, the ample pool and established gardens were lovely, much better than we had anticipated - we would have made much more use of them had this not been our first trip to Marrakesh. A hammam was advertised but we failed to locate it (for those looking for a spa / hammam we highly recommend Les Bains de Marrakesh).
The only real drawbacks were the cost of food / drink in the hotel (cans of soft drink E4 each and cocktails E10 each and of varying quality) and the length of journey to the Medina. It was fine to get into town in the hotel's people-carriers with their very courteous drivers (at a fixed cost of 10E per trip) but coming back to the hotel we had to rely on local less comfortable taxis between 100dh (daytime) and 150dh (nighttime).
We would recommend this hotel if you are looking for a relaxing and peaceful break away from it all but with relatively easy access to one of the most amazing cities in the world! But please don't come expecting a European business class level of 5*!
