“Fantastic Riad”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2011

Cleverly refurbished Riad making it seem like it would have been years ago. Staff very obliging and keen to make your stay a good experience. We had a lovely welcome from manager and staff and a short tour of Riad. The roof terrace is lovely where you can eat, relax and swim in the small pool. Great views. They have two other pools on ground floor. We were lucky to be there at a time when they offered 50% off. At other times they have three nights for two offers. Otherwise it is not a cheap option. But the whole experience was relaxing and good. We liked the food particularly lunch which was special when we shared one meal between three. We took our disabled daughter and one important thing for us was the lift so she could go to the roof.

And at Riad el Fenn, you won't have to, to experience Marrakesh as you've probably always imagined it. It is dark and mysterious, yet warm and welcoming at the same time. The Riad itself is comfortably beautiful, but it is Jane the manager's sunny disposition that pours over the place and makes you feel like you're experiencing an endless summer. We took one of the smaller rooms and it was quite lovely in spite of the size, with a huge outdoor space of it's own. Could not have been happier with the choice. I would also recommend eating at the hotel, the food is really good. The chef is a delight and prepared a special chicken dish just for my husband the night of the big Christmas Eve roast lamb dinner. I am sorry we didn't take more meals here, it is probably my only regret. The whole staff, here, by the way, couldn't be friendlier and more accommodating.

I visitied the Riad for a long weekend in November 2001 with a group of friends. I had a fantastic time. The rooms are all great. I got to see a few as we were quite a large group. The rooms are of many different styles, all show a lot of love and attention to detail. My room was directly off a courtyard which contained a fountain, huge high ceilings and Morroccan polished plaster walls. It all felt quite magical. The hotel also contains lots of interesting art and artefacts

The staff were delighful, nothing was too much trouble. Great food and drinks. We dined in the hotel quite a bit, either on the roof during the day or in the bar and restaurant in the evening.

The riad contains a lovely hammam and has great therapists.

I would thoroughly recommend this hotel and look forward to a return visit

We stayed there for a week in mid December. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. The riad is very nicely furnished. We were given tea and cakes on our arrival which is an everyday event. Jewel made us very welcome from start to finish. She was always around to help us out with any questions about the place. We had the room at the top which had it's own private terrace and sofas outside. It meant we could see sunrise. We could also use our iPad with the free wifi to check out how London was gripped with heavy snow showers. They also had 2 pools which we never got to use. We did use their hammam which my wife adored. Yet we did use the video room movie theatre one night very good indeed had it all to ourselves. The main square place jamaa el fna was only a few minutes walk away where we went for our evening dinner and to see the local markets and entertainers. Overall all the place is magical. They even organised a tour for us to the atlas mountains and the driver picked us up from the riad. You have to stay there if you go to Marrakech

When you enter the medina in Marrakech you have no idea whats in store for you You are taken down this alley and knock on this door and you are entering paradise. Is calm, beautiful, and feel very taken care of. The staff are always asking if they can do anything for you without being in your face. The hotel manager was so helpful. They arranged a driver to take me to find lost baggage and nothing seemed to difficult. The rooms were beautiful. They big and grand did not have any locks on the door and you felt very secure. The rooftop was also stunning. The pool was warm and the sun beds were very comfortable. The lunch on the roof was great and alot of it and the same goes for the breakfast. When you awoke in the morning waiting for you was your morning coffee or tea in a thermus outside your door. Its the little touches that mean alot. Can not say enough about this place Have no hesitation about staying here it will not disappoint.

Cool is just cool. If you don't do cool. Try a western hotel with box rooms. This place is just magical. Like sweet music that delights one's ears and soul. Our family all agreed that this was the best place we stayed on our trip. La Mamounia was great for one night but so separate from the artistic type Marrakech experience. Great location. Safe. Friendly. And fantastic food, from bountiful fresh breakfasts to organic well prepared and presented meals. Next time I go, I'm going to spend a few days just hanging out in the hotel as the vibe was so right for creativity and pondering life. Thanks a ton from the Greene Mitchum family!!!!

We stayed at El Fenn for a long weekend. The place lived up to what we wanted and more. It was relaxing. The rooms and facilities were great. The staff were really welcoming. And the food was some of the best we had. It has a great knack of making you feel that it was your home. The location couldn't have been better. It would have been great to stay longer.

With 20 individually styled rooms and suites, a four-bedroom private riad, 3 swimming pools and its own hammam spa, El Fenn is a unique boutique hotel combining grandeur and historic architecture with hideaway nooks, terraces and gardens - making it the most peaceful place from which to enjoy Africa's most exotic city. Our story began with two friends on the hunt for a small riad to buy as a holiday home. It was 2002 when Vanessa Branson and Howell James walked into the almost ruined courtyard of one of Marrakech's formerly great private homes. Nearing dusk and with the sound of the muezzin's call to prayer echoing in the air, they instantly fell in love with the atmospheric house which was being sold with three smaller neighbouring homes. They soon realised that their holiday home was going to become so much more.At the time, only a handful of Marrakech's riads had been converted to small hotels and Vanessa and Howell knew they wanted to open a place offering something different - a home from home retreat that combined great food and service with the spirit of the building's past and a contemporary decorative twist. During a two-year renovation, local craftsman used traditional techniques to breathe new life into the building. Polished lime plastering was used in a rainbow of colours to create walls, baths and bed frames, original tiling was renovated and carved cedar ceilings restored. Retro furniture sourced from local flea markets was combined with one-off bespoke pieces to create a unique interior. ... more   less
