“a fabulous birthday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2007

Just returned from four perfect nights at the Riad Magi. Kind, courteous staff for whom nothing was too much trouble, a beautiful, tranquil place even though just a stone's throw from the Djemaa el-Fna, breakfasts to die for eaten on the roof terrace and, as a result of a tip-off from my husband, a birthday cake with my name written in chocolate and a candle on top was produced on a rose-petal-strewn table. We also ate dinner there one night that was cooked specially for us and was the best meal we've eaten anywhere in Morocco. Highly recommended and can't wait to return.

I absolutely loved this riad. We struggled to get rooms in the ones recommended by our guide book, and were very happy to get in here for one night. But afterwards we wished we had stayed there for the entire week. The service was very personal and warm and friendly. The room we got was very charming. And I absolutely LOVED the breakfast. Everything was fresh: the yoghurt seemed home made, the croissants were huge, the coffe yummy, lovely pancakes.... If they'd added a bit of fruit I certainly would have gone to heaven.

Was a lovely riad - very close to the souks and room was lovely and quite. However we were a bit disappointed when the bill arrived with an extra 10% added onto the top for VAT. We stayed at Magi at the end of our trip around Morocco and this was the first place that had charged VAT on top of the advertised price!! Could be a problem if you are on a tight budget. Otherwise the riad and food were lovely and the service was very good.

I have stayed at the wonderful Riad Magi twice, so the place now feels like home. The peace and tranquility offered just moments from the hussle and bussle of the Jemna al Fna is truely magical.

The courtyard with its orange trees and fountain(and the odd pet cameleon) is a perfect place to sample the best breakfast in Marrakech. The roof terrace is a great place to listen to the call to prayer sounding out accross the city, and maybe have a pre dinner drink.

The rooms are individually decorated and each have their own unique moroccan twist.

Staying in a riad is not like staying in a hotel. It can feel like communal living, and you will bump into and hear your fellow guests opposite the courtyard. So may not be for everyone.

The team at Magi are great and will help you find restaurants and arrange excursions. And if you stay when Madame Maggie is in town you can quickly become part of her amazing circle of life!

Riad Magi exemplifies the magic of the riad experience. Its simple elegance, serene courtyard, charming rooms, and, above all, welcoming staff provide a hidden sanctuary within the walls of Marrakech's vibrant medina. The riad is located just a few steps from Djema al-Fnaa (Marrakech's main square). We stayed at the riad for a total of four nights in April 2006, spread out over the course of a week (we used Marrakech as a base to visit other cities in Morocco). Riad Magi was extremely flexible in accommodating us (3 persons) and as a result we saw all but one of the six rooms. The rooms, each with its own bath, are comfortable and individually decorated with warm colors and local furnishings. The rooms vary in size and face the open interior tree-filled tiled courtyard, in which fresh rose petals are scattered daily. The staff -- Ibrahim, Abdul, and Hadassah -- were very friendly and arranged for guides and restaurant recommendations / reservations. Ibrahim even went to the train station to pick up our train tickets the night before an early departure. Breakfast (prepared by Hadassah) was included and consisted of both Moroccan and Continental foods. It was consistently delicious and Riad Magi's mint tea was the best we tasted anywhere! From our experience, we suggest that you ask to have someone from the staff come to meet you at a designated spot upon arrival as the riad's location is not immediately obvious. We would definitely stay at Riad Magi again.

We stayed in this delighful riad for just 2 days, but we were made most welcome by Maggie and her team. Staying there enabled us more quickly to grasp what Marrakech is all about, be told a little about the city - not the kinds of things you find inthe guide books. The breakfasts are sublime - and so much to eat. The vanilla yoghurt has to be recommended!

I would heartily recommend this riad to anyone seeking calm and tranqulity in Marrakech; it will give you an insight into life in Marrakech which you do not get in hotels, be they budget or 4 star
