I was glad to stay in a riad, instead of a hotel in my first visit to Morocco. Staying in a riad made me more immersed in the culture and traditions of the place. Riad 72 is located in a gritty part of the Medina, which gave me the feel of how the locales live. It is an easy walk to catch a cab to wherever you want to go. If traveling solo, and neighborhood seems intimidating, anyone who works in the riad can walk you to catch a cab.
Riad 72's decor is minimalist. The place is aesthetically pleasing. I stayed in room lile which is charming, but a bit dim for my liking. The room lacks natural light. There is no television, so if you have the curiosity to check out local stations when you travel to foreign lands, this might not be the place for you.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Riad 72 is a romantic retreat that mixes the best of modern Moroccan craftsmanship with contemporary Moroccan design. It has its own private hammam and, thanks to its lushly planted patio, fountain and water features, songbirds are often found here serenading the guests. The terrace is one of the highest of the medina. It offers incomparable views over the old city and onto the majestic Atlas mountains: ideal for soaking up the sun or a sunset aperitif. ... more less
