I had an amazing experience at Riad Hikaya! Within an hour of booking the riad, I received an email from Jane (the riad proprietor) who introduced herself and offered her assistance in arranging any activities I wished to pursue during my 6-night stay. After several email exchanges, a loose itinerary was drawn up and I was ready to explore Marrakech. Jane and John (Jane’s husband) arranged for my pick-up at the airport to take me to the riad. Upon my arrival, I met John and his amazing staff. I was greeted with mint tea and some delightful Moroccan snacks. John and I discussed the history of the riad, both our backgrounds and what brought me to Marrakech. He really made me feel comfortable. I was introduced to Loubna, his assistant, who then gave me a tour of the riad. The riad is just beautiful and it was great to see that John and Jane focused on capturing the vibe of Morocco and encapsulating it this little oasis. I was led to my room where my belongings had already been placed. Again, the room was beautiful and included an air conditioning unit that worked very well during my stay. After I settled in, I met with John again and he provided me with a map of the city and gave me a lot of helpful information about what to see and how to best explore Marrakech.
The riad itself is just south of the Jemaa el Fna Square, about a 15-minute walk. I walked the route each day to explore the souk and museums and the medina itself. The free breakfast was more than plentiful. And it was a great way to start the day before heading out to explore the city. Dinners were also amazing! The chicken tagine and chicken couscous were outstanding! Meals were served on the beautiful terrace. Jane suggested I do the cookery class offered by another local riad. I am so glad I did. It was a great class and I now feel comfortable cooking in a tagine. I also took advantage of the hamman on the property. The massage and the hammam treatment were just amazing. I felt rejuvenated! The ambience of the riad lent to an overall amazing experience, which also included the nightly burning of incense throughout the riad and the turndown service with rose petals. Again, just amazing! I am so happy to have stayed at Riad Hikaya! John, Jane, Loubna and the rest of the staff were just amazing. I was so well-cared for. I can’t imagine staying anywhere else after having spent time here.
