“Best Riad in Marrakech”
Reviewed November 20, 2013

We loved this Riad! Why? First, because the quality of the decor is exquisite both in terms of style and attention to detail. Secondly Riad Hikaya is the most peaceful and relaxing place to stay even though it is at the heart of the old city Medina. Thirdly John's hospitality is warm, considerate, and his knowledge of the city and culture is exceptional and fourthly the roof terrace is magical both in the morning for breakfast and in the evening for supper! The food is delicious home made and traditional and so fresh. The pool in the middle of the Riad is the perfect place to be after a day in the markets and streets of Marrakech and John, as well as being a superb host, was the perfect guide in the city the day he accompanied us. All in all the Riad is a real jewel in the bustling Medina, not to be missed!

I have stayed in Riad Hikaya on both a pleasure and business level. Nothing is too much trouble for the owner, John. Arrival to any airport can be fraught, however, John provides a smooth connection from the airport through the bustling hot Moroccan streets to the unique, tranquil, and exquisitely decorated accommodation that is The Riad Hikaya. On arrival you are greeted by John, and subjected to a warm welcome, amazing home cooked foods, and drinks. The traditional mint tea is quite refreshing after a flight! Of course a good selection of other refreshments are offered also. If you can picture all this in the most delightful ambiance. Amazing lanterns which gifts the walls with such intricate patterned lighting. Sumptuous! Just when you think it could not get any better, you are delighted by the roof terrace and its heady atmosphere of Marrakech, the vast starry sky, and swathes of traditional Moroccan fabrics, all lit beautifully. The bedrooms and en-suits are rather special. Traditional skills, colours, and textures have been beautifully juxtaposed with convenience and modern living, offering a truly comfortable yet cultural experience. The streets of Marrakech are a sight to behold. It is like no other place, steeped in its traditions. When your day out has ended you are happily tired with the knowledge of returning to Riad Hikaya and all its levels of accommodation. I cannot recommend enough. Rachel Simpson

Top quality accommodation and splendid furnishings with warm and friendly service, dinner under the stars, and real attention to detail from John, it is difficult to overpraise this boutique hotel.
The surroundings are ideal for a peaceful stay and yet with the exciting hustle and bustle of Marrakech only a few yards away. We look forward greatly to our next visit.

Against the back drop of the hustle and bustle of Marrakech, this boutique hotel provides comfort, tranquillity and the most beautiful surroundings. From the fabulous welcome and delicious home made food, through to the wealth of local knowledge at your disposal (through the Owner - John) guests are so well looked after. Staying at Riad Hikaya is a wonderful and unique experience. It's a fabulous way to sample Marrakech.

Room Tip: Try the room with the massive copper bath

I have visited the Riad on 1 occasion. John had arranged our airport transfer which, got our break off to a great start. On arrival at the Riad, John welcomed us with a big smile and whisked us to the top floor for a fab lunch. The quality of the RIad is wonderful, the rooms reflect Marrakesh they have copper baths and a great feel to them. Our host John also arranged a guide around the city and also a ride on a horse and cart. They even picked us up from outside the door.

Over all I would recommend this Boutique Hotel to anyone. Mark

This was our second visit to Riad Hikaya and I'm sure it will not be our last. From being met at the airport Gate to the mint tea and personal welcome on arrival at the Riad we felt so relaxed, welcome and 'at home' from the outset. The proprietor, John, has attended to every detail and his personal passion in creating this serene, beautiful and atmospheric place really shows. You should dine in, on the roof, at least once - its an experience and the food is outstanding! John's local knowledge and connections are really valuable, he can arrange personal trips, give tips on things to do, restaurants, places to avoid too! It is more than a personal concierge; more like having a trusted adviser on hand who really wants to help you to get the most out of the extraordinary place that marrakesh is. If you are after a serene private riad experience in the kasbah heart of 'proper' Marrakesh, with discrete personal attention and all the help you could want to get the most from your stay, then this is the place for you. It's excellent value for what it offers.
