“For the seedier side of life and a dollop of rudeness”
Reviewed December 30, 2009

We spent a night on two occasions at this hotel in Marrakech, located near the train station in the new district of the city. The first stay we were met by rudeness and a very pushy bell boy who insisted on a tip before the bags hardly touched the floor in our rather shabby room. The reception staff insisted it was not possible to have a cup of coffee at 6 am because breakfast didn't start till 6:30 - other places had kindly even offered us a pack breakfast if we left very early. As it happened, a nice elderly man DID serve us coffee and bread before 6:30 and we were happy to leave him 20 Dirham. The early morning reception staff was also at least friendly though unhelpful. On our second stay (we tried to cancel but didn't get an internet connection in time) we experienced the same extreme rudeness of the reception staff (insisting on a 'voucher' when none is given if booked online). We knew our booking was in their diary since we checked on our previous visit and eventually he relented though no apology. In the evening we ventured up to the 'terrace' where we found an extremely smokey lounge type atmosphere with rather sozzled-looking characters (both men and women!) and tables covered with empty beer bottles. A rather bizarre site after 2 weeks travel in Morocco. It was quite a heavy atmosphere so we left. The rooms are beyond shabby, noisy, TV not working, poor repair. We would not recommend this place even though it seems convenient for a quick departure for an early morning train. Look elsewhere.

We found this hotel very dirty, the crockery in the dining room was covered in dust, when we complained and assured it would be sorted, it wasn't. The toilet leaked and had a big crack in it. The next room we had was a bit better but there was a horrible smell . Loved Marrakech but would definately never go to this hotel again. It is not as clean and shiny as the pictures point out. If you stay there you will be dissappointed.

After reading different reviews on different sites we decided to go for it.We booked the hotel at the very last minute and it was very well priced. Some reviews said " DON'T TOUCH IT" some said " YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR" and really you do get what you pay for.We paid £78 for 3 nights including breakfast. on arrival at the hotel it looks very smart, the reception is very smart all in Moroccam style and just opposite the reception there is an area all in Moroccan style where you can just sit,and it is so comfortable you could just go sleep! The receptionist was very friendly, he spoke very good English but as I spoke French it comes in very handy. Our room was on the main road, which is quite noisy, but you see the real Marrakech which IS noisy! The rooms have seen better days but are very cosy.Take your own towels as the ones that are there are no good at all and have seen better days. Cleaners are very friendly, they speak a little bit of English-JUST THE BREAKFAST WAITER! He never said a word.Every morning it was the same, half a baguette, a petite pain au chocolat, tea or coffee and a glass of orange juice, probably the most miserable person we ever met in Marrakech!!!! The beds were so comfortable, I laid down at 18h on the second night and didn't wake up until 07h the next day.In general a great hotel near to the centre (about 20 minutes to the main centre). DON'T miss the terrace , you can see the whole city and the mountains!!

We booked this hotel for two nights as some friends had stayed there last year, and wished hadn't really. As other reviewers said, it's old and tired inside and while some of the desk staff were helpful, others just seemed to be slightly dodgy.
At least the breakfast seemed to have improved a litle - we got a large pain au chocolat and a big bit of baguette with butter & jam, plus juice, coffee and hot milk (although this isn't as good as other hotels in Marrakech.
The room did have air-con and a TV and the shower worked.

  • Liked — That the door locked!
  • Disliked — The age, some of the staff and the location
