This is a wonderful riad to stay in; especially for a big family or large group of people. The riad itself is about a 15 minute walk from the main square and very easy to navigate to and from if that is a concern. No windy alleyways that look much the same. My 12 year old found the way back on the 1st day!
The riad itself is well kitted out and all rooms are spacious enough and have en-suite facilities. The roof terrace is very comfortable and a great escape after returning from the hectic lifestyle that is Marrakech.
The staff couldn't be friendlier or more helpful. Dinner or lunch at the riad is an option if you like at a cost of EUR 20 per head (EUR 10 for children). The breakfasts in the morning are amazing...watch those waistlines!
I would say that the riad itself may be a little far from "the action" so to speak if you have younger children as a 15 minute walk (possibly in the dark) after a meal at a restaurant after a long day might be a bit much. As mentioned already though; eating at the riad itself is always an option.
So...book with confidence and enjoy your stay. You won't be disappointed!
We came to Riad Davia for my wifes 40th with a group of friends, firstly I want to say the manager Habib was amazing, he made everything so easy helping organise transport fo the big group, food, advice, he really helped make the whole trip stress free. The ladies who cooked breakfast were lovely and the food delicious. The riad itself is charming and authentic and the photos do not do it justice.
We are already talking about a return trip..
the house was just perfect with a very air con in every room and hot water in the en suite rooms. Habib the manager was very kind and extremely helpful and made us feel right at home. the 2 ladies who prepared food for us throughout our stay was extremely lovely and approachable. I would give this Riad a higher score if I had the option to !!!. the team at Riad Davia made us feel 'at home' and comfortable during our trip to Morocco.
We had such a wonderful time. Habib, Hafida & Zeynab were brilliant and very accommodating to our needs, we are ever so grateful for their hospitality. The Riad has an authentic look and perfect for the 12 of us. Hafida and Zeynab prepared breakfast for us every day which we really enjoyed. The only disappointment for us was the swimming pool - It was more like a dipping pool rather than a swimming pool. Nevertheless the kids made most of it. It’s so beautiful in the evenings. The Riad is situated in the old part of Marrakech, which means you can do most activities by walking i.e. visiting the Souks, The Big Square, Koutobia mosque, money exchange etc. The big shopping malls are about 10-15mins drive. Habib organised our daily excursions; Atlas Mountain, Quad biking, camel riding, Hammam & massage. We thoroughly enjoyed it. You can easily get fresh produce which are very cheap and reasonable. The locals are also very welcoming, but have little English. Their native language is Arabic and French.
Where to begin, with this stunning experience? Location, hospitality, authenticity, value, warmth - Riad Davia was such a wonderful experience for my family and me.
Riad Davia is in the heart of the 13th century, walled, inner Medina of the city of Marrakech. It is located on a quiet side street not accessible to automobiles, which connects with an only slightly larger street that is a thoroughfare for traders and merchants, donkey-pulled carts, children, motorbikes, and the ubiquitous, friendly stray cats that call Marrakech home. Following the winding, narrow, busy streets for fifteen minutes will bring you to the fabled Jemaa el Fnaa, the impressive public square that brings together henna artists, snake charmers, musicians, tourists, and merchants of all kinds. Jemaa el Fnaa lives up to the hype, especially when you venture off to visit the souks (markets) that are located on the covered streets that radiate out from the square.
The Riad itself is fantastic. After a day full of the sights, sounds and aromas of a busy, Moroccan marketplace, the Riad is a veritable sanctuary of tranquility and peace. It is comfortable, spacious and pleasant, and it captures the spirit and history of Marrakech in a way that also appeals to and satisfies the Westerner. We spent three nights in Riad Davia and enjoyed every minute in the Riad. It was a pleasure to sit on the rooftop in the (relatively) cool evening air, listening to the final call to prayer resonating throughout the city. It was a pleasure to rest near the pool in the interior courtyard, with the canopy created by the aged mulberry tree that grows in the center of the Riad. It was a pleasure to sit and relax on the balcony outside the sleeping quarters, listening to the breeze and the birds in the mulberry tree.
Perhaps best of all was the hospitality of our hosts. Habib clearly takes his role as host very seriously, and he knows how to play that role well. His suggestions regarding how to spend our limited time in Marrakech were spot-on, and he was always available to be sure we were having a great experience. And Hafida and Zineb are gastronomic geniuses, as well as being friendly and welcoming. A superb breakfast was included in our rental rate, and we enjoyed very much the breakfast each morning. But we also opted for an optional dinner for the first night, imagining that that would be easier than trying to find a restaurant late in the day. The dinner (lamb, couscous, vegetables) was amazing, we decided to have dinner in the Riad each night we were there, and each night brought new culinary delights! Dinner on the final evening was simply amazing; we will never forget it.
Staying in the heart of the Medina won't be for everyone. Many Westerners may feel uncomfortable with the experience of seeing, so very intimately, Moroccans living their lives and going about their daily routines of buying food on the market, sharing busy streets with other people, motorbikes and animals, and observing their deeply held faith tradition. We found the experience valuable and enriching and are grateful for our time in Riad Davia.
Excellent location within the Medina, with walking distance to most of the interesting sections of it. Including the main square & Mosque area. The interior courtyard remained cool during the hottest times of the day, & the rooms remained comfortably warm throughout the night. The pool was perfect for cooling off tired, hot feet at the end of a day of sightseeing. Habib looked after us like we were family members. The first time we ventured out into the Medina, he accompanied us; showing us the sights, & pointing out little landmarks to aid us in orienting ourselves on further outings. The ladies cooked some fine Moroccan meals for us;
we were 10 family members, with ages ranging from 11 to 78. Three of our group, including the 11 year old, are vegetarians; the ladies prepared special meals just for them. The ladies were warm, friendly and helpful.
We stayed at riad davia for a week in july, the place was lovely, clean and spacious. The hospitality and help from the staff, especially Habib was outstanding, he became a part of the family by the end of the holiday!! Excellent value for money.would definitely come back here again in the future.
