While in search for a cooking class in Marrakesh it was recommended I take a look at the Amal Center. When I heard the Amal Cenfer used money generated from their cooking classes to help and empower women, I didn’t need to hear anymore, I knew this was the one.

When I arrived I had the utmost honor and privilege to share breakfast with the founder Nora, and members of her all women leadership team. (Kenza & Malik)
❤️
Nora began this great work by using her own resources to help disadvantaged and extremely poor women, typically orphans, widows, divorced or single mothers, women who have worked as child maids, and women who have had little or no education. Later she decided she wanted to do more than just help them with her own resources, but she also wanted to equip them with tools to be able to support themselves.
🇲🇦
In 2012 the Amal Center was established. With two women enrolled Nora began teaching them how to bake international desserts and setting them up to earn a living from their skills.
🍊
Today the Amal Center has helped over 300 women get reinserted back into society and has opened its own restaurant.
❤️
Unfortunately when covid hit, both Amal Center locations, (the community center & restaurant) were shut down. However, the team decided they still wanted to help women. They launched a new project and embarked on a goal to provide food for 1,000 women, by the projects end 2,300 women were served.
🇲🇦
As the streets were locked down due to government mandates, authorities gave them a hard time about being on the road. So they decided to partner with a bike company and use alternative routes for delivery.
Today Amal operates the community center which runs the catering and cooking classes, the restaurant, (which serves lunch for a few hours daily, and sees about 250 customers on Friday’s for their popular couscous), and recently they added a pop up Cafe operated by women who are either deaf or blind.
All for women. All by women.
Thankful for Chef Fatiha for her grace & patience teaching me how to make lamb Tangine, and to all the beautiful, kind, and hospitable women I met, saw, and engaged with.
You all can have this mans support any day.
