“Wonderful hospitality in Marrakech”
Reviewed May 30, 2013

Service:
The owners Gilles & Dominique are wonderful hosts. They were very attentive, following up on details the cleaning staff may have missed, providing natural local bath products, and doing the little extras (helped us spread out laundry drying on the roof, getting us napkins when they saw us eating on the rooftop, etc.). They went out of their way to help us find some souvenirs we were looking for. Gilles recommended some excellent, good value restaurants to help us avoid the tourist traps.

Room:
We stayed at both the small room on the ground floor and a larger one on the second floor. Both are clean and comfortable. We were shocked walking into the room & find rose petals on our bed! Similar to other riads we stayed at, the rooms open into the common atrium so it can be noisy when there are people talking outside the rooms. The rooftop is a really nice place to lounge, with a large covered tent-like soft seating area, hot tub, and some patio furniture.

Location:
The riad is located in a more residential part of the medina. Instead of being surround by souvenir shops, it was nice to walk out to local market shops. There is even a traditional hammam just down the street - my most memorable Moroccan experience It is only a short walk away from the main square and other sightseeing spots, and a short taxi ride (and not that long a walk) to the new town. The only down side is there are not as many restaurant choices at the door step, but there are lots of choices within 5-10 min walk.

Breakfast:
Breakfast was quite filling, with the usual bread, yogurt, etc. Gilles made eggs to order. On the first day, he even baked a cake for breakfast.

Overall, it was a pleasant relaxing stay, and good value.

Room Tip: Similar to most riads with traditional layout, I prefer a room on an upper floor as the ground floor...

We have just returned from Marrakech and we just cannot say enough about our wonderful Riad. Everyone comments on Gilles and Dominique's hospitality and there is nothing more to say about how wonderful hosts they are. The Riad itself, however, is also amazing. The location is perfect for exploring the souks, and just a short stroll away from Jemaa el-FNA and all the main tourist attractions. After getting lost (literally and metaphorically) the Riad's terrace is an ideal place to relax and plan your next moves. The standards of cleanliness are extremely high- something that you will appreciate more once in Marrakech. Our breakfast (served whenever it suited us) was always tasty and allowed us to taste all sorts of Moroccan pancakes. Our hosts even upgraded to the suite since they had a vacancy and greeted us with a goodbye gift. We thank them so much for everything they did, their valuable advice and welcoming smiles and hope to see them again one day.

This is probably one of the best places I have ever stayed at and I just finished a trip around the world! I stayed with 4 of my friends and we loved it! This Riad is owned by the sweetest French couple and they will take such good care of you; so accommodating to everything we needed. They know a lot about the city and can give you some local tips on what to see and where to go. Their Riad is like a little piece of paradise. You walk through a small little door and I swear you'll say 'wow' when you walk in. It's like in the movie Aladdin. Beautiful terrace with a nice bar and some lounge chairs. Great little corner to relax and have a glass of wine or some hookah. It's a five to ten minute walk to the center and where the main square is and all the little markets. It was absolutely fabulous! I'll be back for sure!

Room Tip: There a very cute little hot tub, but you won't need it cause Marrakech is HOT! So no fitness c...

We did not choose this Riad, but were advised that the one we tried to book was full, "but we have friends who have rooms free for your dates"
Well that was a stroke of great fortune, because if that had not happened we would never have met Gilles and his lovely wife Dominique. There hospitality was second to none, the Riad is beautiful, clean, comfortable and excellently located. The service is second to none. The food is superb and nothing is too much trouble. They are allays willing to help and offer advice on all aspects of Marrakech. We could not possibly write enough to even begin to explain why we recommend this place so highly. You will just have to go and experience it. Very Special people in a very special place.

My husband and I enjoyed staying in Riad Abaca Badra very much. Our only regret was that we could not have stayed longer!

This is a newly renovated, small but nice riad near to the square in Marrakech. Location is great. From the riad, we could walk to the square through some clearly recognizable main roads, without the need to be afraid of losing ourselves in the medina.

Best of all, Dominique and Gilles are great hosts who always show friendliness and warmth! When we arrived at the riad, they welcomed us with mint tea and snack, and chatted with us like old friends. Our room was ready, and we were so glad to find out that it was so lovely! It was small but cosy. The pot of roses, the plate of fruits, the rose petals on our bed...... everything could show the thoughtfulness and gentleness of our hosts.

The only drawback was that the mattress was a bit too soft for us. Sleep quality could be improved if the mattress was harder.

Overall, we were much pleased with the intimate and relaxing atmosphere in this little riad. And we are already looking forward to come back again!

The first two days of our trip to Morocco, we stayed in Riad Abaca Badra with my husband. I had chosen this riad after reading all the positive reviews in tripadvisor. They are so true. The riad is charming, lovely and clean. The location is great. But more than all of this, it is about Dominique and Gilles... They are really incredible hosts, warm, helpful and very considerate. They greeted us with a very warm welcome, served us the best mint tea we drank in Morocco, provided us everything we needed, (even medicine and thermometer when my husband got sick) and answered everything we asked... We left Marrakesh to go to Essaouira and then to the desert. On our last night we came back to Marrakesh, and ofcourse went to Abaca Badra. It was like being at home. Dominique and Gilles had saved the same room for us, decorated our bed and our towels with rose leaves. The next morning our train to Casablanca was very early. When we woke up, it was a very nice surprise to find our breakfast ready, our transfer organized, Dominique and Gilles at the door waving hands to us, at six thirty in the morning. It is our pleasure to recommend Abaca Badra... Esra&Vedat

We stayed a total of 5 nights in this riad in March 2013. Its number one quality is the outstanding service provided by Dominique and Gilles (and their staff). At all times warm, cheerful and available, they went over and above the call of duty to meet every need and answer every question we had, greatly contributing to our overall enjoyment of our stay in Marrakech.

They provided lots of good advice, for example, and restaurant recommendations, and lent us guide books, maps, and even an umbrella one rainy evening! (Oh, and some medicine too when one of us found herself feeling slightly sick one morning - that saved our day!)

One of the things we also appreciated was the fact that they didn't impose hours for serving breakfast and that they served a different local specialty every day, which were a delight to discover. We also had a chance to try a three-course dinner they prepared - it was excellent! And the mint tea they served from Day 1 to our last day was the best we ever had in the city.

It was also extremely appreciable that they generously provided filtered water (we filled up a big water bottle every morning to bring along on our tour of the city).

The rooms were lovely, spacious and clean; the riad, enchanting - an overall comforting haven of peace amidst this bustling city.

Once more, we can't emphasize it enough - Dominique and Gilles are truly remarkable hosts! We recommend.

Nicole & Ben
