The owners Gilles & Dominique are wonderful hosts. They were very attentive, following up on details the cleaning staff may have missed, providing natural local bath products, and doing the little extras (helped us spread out laundry drying on the roof, getting us napkins when they saw us eating on the rooftop, etc.). They went out of their way to help us find some souvenirs we were looking for. Gilles recommended some excellent, good value restaurants to help us avoid the tourist traps.
We stayed at both the small room on the ground floor and a larger one on the second floor. Both are clean and comfortable. We were shocked walking into the room & find rose petals on our bed! Similar to other riads we stayed at, the rooms open into the common atrium so it can be noisy when there are people talking outside the rooms. The rooftop is a really nice place to lounge, with a large covered tent-like soft seating area, hot tub, and some patio furniture.
The riad is located in a more residential part of the medina. Instead of being surround by souvenir shops, it was nice to walk out to local market shops. There is even a traditional hammam just down the street - my most memorable Moroccan experience It is only a short walk away from the main square and other sightseeing spots, and a short taxi ride (and not that long a walk) to the new town. The only down side is there are not as many restaurant choices at the door step, but there are lots of choices within 5-10 min walk.
Breakfast was quite filling, with the usual bread, yogurt, etc. Gilles made eggs to order. On the first day, he even baked a cake for breakfast.
Overall, it was a pleasant relaxing stay, and good value.
