Mr Lash and I were attracted to this hotel due to it's Child Unfriendly policy. The wee blighters have to pay their way. No free juice for Andy and Jenny here. It tends to put children off travelling, when they are expected to pay for their room.

There were indeed no children in the pool, just some very fat ladies - which totes cheered me up. I do enjoy being the thinnest one there! And a big Russian man who's burd kept telling him off for smiling at me.

Karim, who runs the restaurant and bar and maybe the whole joint, is possibly the nicest Moroccan man on the planet. And a lot of them are quite friendly. Karim made us the perfect martinis, after only one lesson from Mr Lash! Always cheerful, but never aggressively so, he knocked himself out coming up with a spicy breakfast for Mr Lash who chows like a Chinese man even when he's in Africa.

Most of the staff were lovely, but there was this dude who introduced himself as the Manager and kept saying, 'We have exceeded your expectations'. This first came up when we were offered a complimentary trip to the spa, then given a bill for Mr Lash's treatment.

Mr Lash pointed out how odd it would be if only one guest were given a Welcome Drink, while the other half of the couple paid for his. The fee for Mr Lash's massage was waived, but we were warned - not for the first time - that they had 'Exceeded our Expectations'.

Driving to the medina was the next time our expectations were exceeded. The hotel's driver said he'd normally dump us 'over there' - Over There being the side of the motorway - but he would Exceed our Expectations by actually driving us to the Medina! Mr Lash explained that this was our expectation.

The Housekeeper was yacking to the maid while she was cleaning my bathroom while I tried to read on my private terrace. I had to play David Cassidy rather loud to persuade her to leave! Always travel with some bad music on your ipod is my advice.

We did enjoy our stay at the Mosaic Palais, but the only thing that really exceeded expectation was that Karim managed to make the perfect martini after only one lesson. Bartenders around the world are not as gracious in accepting Mr Lash's advice, and stubbornly insist on putting in too much Vermouth.

Room Tip: Upstairs unless you like geckos.

Dear Guest,

We would like to thank you for having taken the time to post your review following your recent stay at Mosaic Palais Aziza & Spa Marrakech.

We assure you that we welcome all guest’s comments and complaints which we discuss and analyze with the respectives departments in order to improve service provided to our valued guests. Actually, we believe that every and each guest’s comment or complaint is an opportunity for us to improve.

With regards to your comment about "child unfriendly policy", sincerely we did not understand the reason why you did mention this particularly that you stayed with us without kids. However, we would like to highlight that we do not have such policy. On the contrary, we have had kids staying at our hotels with their families and they are most welcome at any time. Of course, this in the context of a small boutique hotel and not a mega family resort in a beach city which anyhow, we are not.

On a seperate note, thank you for your positive comments about our staff whom you found lovely and your great comment as well about our colleague at the bar, Karim which we have already shared with him.

As per House keeping service, it is worth mentioning that we have put at our guest’s diposal a "do not disturb signs" which can be used if they don’t want to be disturbed by the house keeping team.

Once again, we thank you for your comments and look forward to the pleasure of welcoming you back in the not too distant future. We will do our best to make your next stay with us a memorable one.

Your sincerely,

Khadija Doofi

Located just a 15 minute complimentary drive in a new land rover from the centre of the city, this hotel really is a palace in the oasis of La Palmerie. When we arrived we were welcomed with cold towels and fresh orange juice and that was before we had checked in. The hotel itself is beautiful, no detail has gone unattended and the same can be said for the staff. We were kindly upgraded to a villa in the grounds and it was just perfect. The design would impress the hippest of travellers and the level of house keeping, the most discerning.

The food is simple but cooked with skill from the freshest ingredients. Don't leave without having their special shoulder of lamb.

Finally the staff are among the best I have ever come across, understated, kind and witty without being over the top. Nothing was too much trouble . The manager suggested several meals for us, taking care of wine (good value, and when does that happen?) and food choices, and we loved everything. The whole feel of the place is that of a hip house party. We went with our kids (13 & 6) and they loved the calm atmosphere as much as we did. We took advantage of one of their guided tours of the city which was brilliant and made the madness of Marrakech fun and not a hassle. The spa is top notch and we were even offered a complimentary massage beside the pool.

I would go back again in a hearbeat, I hope it's as quiet and lovely when we return. Thank you for a lovely holiday.

Room Tip: The rooms are beautiful. For a family a villa has so much space, we had a sumptuous bedroom while th...

We stayed at Mosiac for 3 nights at the end of September and were very impressed with the whole hotel and its staff. Our room, top floor, had a beautiful balcony overlooking the pool and the most comfortable bed, large bathroom with lovely hand made soaps. I would say the only downside was that we were over charged for a few nuts that were in the room. It appeared the fruit and nuts were complimentary but be careful, they were not! We were a bit shocked to see them on the bill at the end of the stay! Apart from this one very small blip, we would go back and recommend anyone who wants a peaceful relaxing hotel to stay here. Breakfasts were good as were the lunches, didn't try the evening meal, but will do so next time.

Room Tip: go for an upstairs room as you will have more privacy than the ground floor ones, which people can s...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write us your positive review about your stay at Mosaic Palais Aziza & Spa!

We are glad that you enjoyed your room and the food as well.

As per the nuts, we do apologize for the confusion but actually the nuts in a sealed glass jar, are listed and priced on the mini bar list placed on top of the mini bar. However, other aminities such as fresh fruits are complimentary for all our guests.

Thank you again for recommending our hotel and we look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Kind regards,

With so many good hotels to choose from in Marrakesh, the Mosaic is an exceptional experience. At the beautifully appointed property away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Marrakesh, there is a more intimate and relaxed feeling than in many luxurious, five-star hotels. Each guest is made to feel special, with staff remembering names and providing a quality of service that is rare. Senior management of the hotel were always around, making sure everything was running smoothly and making sure guests were happy. I got the sense that management has created a positive team environment and that hotel staff genuinely enjoy their jobs.

The beautiful hotel is well-maintained and if something needs attending to, it happens right away. You never have to ask for something more than once.

While the food is creative and, for the most part, delicious, a little more variety would be welcome, especially if you are there for a few days and don't leave the hotel for meals. But the bar and restaurant staff were enthusiastic for feedback and create such a welcoming environment to enjoy lingering meals on the patio.

One of the best hotel experiences I've had in long time, and a great place to relax, unwind and feel pampered.

Room Tip: suites on the ground floor have less private terraces than upstairs.

Experience the exceptional service and attention to detail from the moment you arrive at this oasis nestled in the Palmarie in Marrakech. You are greeted immediately with the signature orange juice and cinnamon and an exceptionally well trained and coordinated team at the hotel. Each item in the hotel has been carefully selected and tastefully placed; from the intricate mouldings to the elaborate Moroccan lamps.

While not hovering, the staff anticipate your every need and are exceptionally friendly and efficient. They do the small touches very well. Petals on the bed, towels on the chaise lounges, and small talk by the management all add to the easiness into which we fell. The staff treat each guest like the only guest, remembering your name and details.

The spa treats are not expensive and are worthwhile. The gym is underused but well equipped, with towels, water, in a clean and inviting atrium like atmosphere. The various dining locations break up the monotony of always eating in the same place (though the menu could have more options), and the staff are very helpful in arranging day trips to the old city.

The food is creatively designed and presented with artistic flair. The bar and lounge lend to the easy nature of the place, but are immaculate and precisely detailed.

We would enthusiastically recommend the Mosaic to anyone wanting to truly get away and recharge.

Room Tip: There are a variety of single rooms, suites, and bungalows. You may not want a suite on the ground...

They have clearly spent a lot of money on this hotel. The rooms are nice and modern, as is the pool. Hamam and gym immaculate. For the price you will not be disappointed with the facilities. The reason i have not given a 5 star rating is that the service was not quite right for a 5 star hotel. Since the hotel had a very low occupancy i felt that rather than offering free privileges and upgrades (which they could have at no extra cost to them), there was a slight desperation and attempt to squeeze as much money out of the few customers that were there. For example the lady at reception before showing us to our room we had booked, showed us to a large suite, and engaged us into a barter to upgrade. Since i didn't care about the room size i refused, however she insistently then offered us another room with a pool view (and twin beds!!), once again at an increased price. I found this slightly unprofessional, and more the kind of stuff that goes on in the souk in town, rather than at a 5 star hotel!! The bar man was pretty slow as well, and they spent most of the day pretending to tidy/ clean stuff that didn't require it. Given the occupancy once again i felt they could have been more attentive/ generous. That being said all the staff were nice when they weren't procrastinating, and breakfast/ food/ drinks in general were pretty good, and understandably expensive. They were also quite stingy with the hotel car and facilities. For example i asked if them on two occasions if we could use it (once for just a 10 minute drive to nikki beach, second time to the airport.) On both occasions i was refused which i felt was slightly unnecessary given i would have happily paid, and the car was there. They also charge to take out the push bikes, which is pretty sad!! Taking everything into account though, Mosaic palais aziza is a great retreat, and if they ironed out the niggles, which they could with a slight adjustment in management style it would be pretty much the perfect retreat for a long weekend in marrakech.

MOSAIC P, General Manager at Palais Aziza & Spa, responded to this reviewResponded October 21, 2013

Dear Sir,

We would like to thank you for having taken the time to write your candid opinion with regards to your recent experience at our property.

It is important to highlight that: at Mosaic Hotels, everything is centered around our “ Valued Guest” and we always strive to deliver attentive personalized service,

We take all guest comments and complaints on board, analyzing them and improving our processes as we judge those comments to be opportunities for us to improve.

After having personally looked at your comments and investigated it with the team, I am pleased to list hereunder the following :

The Mosaic Marrakech currently runs and publicizes a complimentary shuttle service to the city center twice daily upon prior reservations and at certain specific hours.

As a matter of fact our reception team is empowered to make exception, however they also take into consideration our limited resources of vehicles and drivers, we proceed be delivering our promise, by this we mean that we offer all services written with consistency, and only if we can we expand such a service.

Here, it is important to highlight that not all the Luxury Boutique Hotels in Marrakech’s Palmeraie offer a free shuttle to town, moreover increasing the frequency of the said and making it “a la carte” based on guest request, would mean that hotel would need more resources on standby, there is also the fact that offering more frequency or sort of on request vehicles when occupancy is low, would certainly cause us issue if and when the very same guest comes again during high season and we are obliged to refuse due to our limited resources, The said guest being a regular guest would simply not understand this non consistent service.

Hence we prefer be consistent all year round regardless seasonalities, this is perhaps a side of the situation that you might have not been aware of, let alone the costs and the investments needed to cater for an a la carte free shuttle service, especially in consideration of the reputation we are building in giving luxury yet with value for Money in comparison of the same level of service and hotel product.

With regards to the room allocation, it is a common practice in hospitality to (propose) an upgrade upon check in and this at a difference in rate, to justify not only the size of room or suite but also the various extra amenities in the said higher room category. At Mosaic Hotels we offer a Bar Set Up ( with 3 Bottles of Whisky, Vodka and Gin) in each Junior Suite, hence giving a free upgrade would be difficult.

We have naturally taken your comment on board and are now reviewing it to ensure that it does not come across as hard selling from our reception team.

Worth mentioning that we very frequently conduct pricing surveys in the markets in which we operate hotels, and in the case of Marrakech I can assure you that our Food and Beverage prices are indeed in line with the competition of the same category, meaning the luxury boutique hotels, in fact we are rather on the low side, especially when one considers the quality of the culinary experiences that guests experiences in our restaurants, here It is worth clarifying that in Middle East and North African Countries there is a high tax on (alcoholic beverages) which obliges the hotels in that part of the world to practice the current prices in the market and which are substantially higher than in Europe. And again here in comparison to our competitive set we are very much in line and always on the lower side of the spectrum.

Once again, I thank you for your comments and look forward to the pleasure of welcoming you in the not too distant future, once you decide to book again, please contact me or my personal assistant in person and we will be happy to consider an upgrade to the next category and where you also experience our new season menus in both Maroliano and La Pergola

Your sincerely
